Daily Prompt – Scent, Perfume
I have participated in numerous choirs and oratorio society. There is a common rule for performances, members are discouraged to wear perfume or cologne. The reason is that some members may be allergic to fragrance. In fact, I am one who is allergic to strong fragrance.
We once traveled to Paris and took a tour to the perfume factory. We were given many kinds of perfume on strips to smell. By the third or fourth strip, I started sneezing. I ended up going outside, waited for the group to finish the tour.
Gentle scent doesn’t bother me. I am allergic to strong fragrance. It is good that most of the choir directors are sensitive to members who have allergy problem.
Daily Prompt: Scent
Daily Prompt: Perfume
Strong fragrances are evil. I am not allergic but it always causes me a headache. I think nowadays it’s not necessary to use too strong perfumes.

You’re right. The trend for make-up is to look natural even when you put something on. So maybe even perfume is better when it is subtle!

Ahh, the perfume wars! I used to LOVE wearing expensive perfume–and I used it liberally (too liberally for most tastes). I remember at my last job, I was told perfumes would not be allowed–out of respect to the employees who suffered allergies. Though I understood, and accepted the policy–it was hard for me, as perfume was part of my “identity” at the time (young, pretty, single, longing to feel attractive and desirable). Years later, around the beginning of menopause, I developed an allergy to any kind of fragrance–including lotions, soaps; I felt a huge added loss, along with all the moodiness and changes. Lately I’ve been thinking there must be something I can substitute, a hypoallergenic fragrance…I miss feeling feminine and pretty 🙂

See the picture I included with the prompt? They are just half of what my husband has in the medicine cabinet. The mirror reflects my hand holding the camera, so I cropped half at the bottom, and 1/3 on the right. Don’t feel bad of what you did when young. As I’m getting aged, my liver can’t handle certain med, and elevated the enzyme, so I cut all the med, down to one that my body can’t let go – that’s for calming the nerve for my legs anyway, so that I could sleep. When I was a student, I wore makeup, when I didn’t, I felt naked. Now I don’t wear makeup.

Great post. This is a great post because a lot of people wear a strong fragrance without thinking of other people. I am one of those people who is allergic to strong fragrance. I was on a train going to the city, to escape reality for awhile, not too long ago, and I almost faint by a fragrance a man was wearing. It was so strong that I couldn’t breathe. I got through the ride eventually. But, honestly, people need to be mindful! Thank you for posting! 🙂

Yes, when I was in the hospital, one nurse aid had heavy perfume. I told the nurse not tolet her in to my room.

I have found recently that If I spray anything in a small space I cough for ages. I hate strong perfume smells. To me perfume should be subtle and only noticed when someone comes close

Sorry for the delayed reply, three of your comments went to spam. I feel exactly the same way about perfume. I use spray for bathroom, but I use something like ocean breeze… very light.

Yes, anyone whois allergic to it, I don’t think we could even try to tolerate. It’s a physical situation.

Are you singing in the choir? When we sing, we have to breath deep to have enough air to sustain the voice!

To help control breathe you relax and slowly exhale like squeezing air out of small hole in a balloon

Oh good, that helps you to sing a long phrase!

I had a similar problem as a child. Luckily, I came out of it as I grew up. So, I can very well relate to the problem. In fact, in my post, I too have mentioned about it.
