The birds love to come to the feeding in my backyard. The faithful pair of Mourning Dove comes daily for morning and evening feeding. The beautiful American Robins are also frequent visitors. All of them are usually good in sharing. Once in in while, there is a third Mourning Dove wants to come for a share. The male Mourning Dove somehow always chases him away. I wonder if he is protecting the territory of the feeding or the territory of his partner!
I just put a plate of seed out for my birds as well (hoping to catch some pictures) and through the night something knocked it off a high pedestal and cracked it. Then we saw a raccoon across the porch last night, so I’m thinking it was in a huge massive bird ha ha but a sneaky lil’ raccoon. 🤤
Yes, same here. The squirrel eats the bird seeds. I sometimes cover the bird seeds at night. Long time ago, we had coyote, raccoon… when we had a feeder for our outdoor cat!
The first year when they laid eggs, the eggs were gone. I was so sad and disappointed. The following year, I was very careful, make sure nothing would help the squirrel or cat to climb up. That helped. The second year, I paid more attention to take sequence of photos!
That’s the beauty of being human. We all are same, behave same, feel same instead of whichever cast, religion or country we belong to. We all are one. “The soul”. Who’s true nature is to love. 😊
Really clear photos of those birds. We have a feeder in the back yard, and most take their turns, but sometimes they get into a squabble! They also come up on the porch to eat the cat’s crunchy food. 🙂
Oh wow! I don’t have a cat! but the squirrel eats the bird seeds. I made a post of the squirrel!! I got other small birds but don’t know the names, maybe sparrows?!
Now I came back from the choir and still didn’t get it. I don’t know what is going on with my email. I received your previous email. I have another busy email address – all the WP email go there. Would do send it again to mlhurdle@msn.com. I would love to get it!
The western blue jays we had were not well liked. People thought they were too noisy. But I noticed they took food from the smaller birds. They loved sunflower seeds.
I just made my correction. These are gray jays. When I started posting them last year, I did a research between blue joy and gray jay! These one are quiet. When they take off to fly, they make some noise, but it’s nice tone! I’ll look at your email!!

I chronicled another pair of birds from laying eggs to hatching, to their feeding, to the babies flew away – three eggs, four babies, one egg must have twins!

I did the same twice, when they built nest in our garden. But they were just random clicks. 😊

I also used to run with a stick in my hand whenever I used to see any cat around the nest. 😀

Oh bless your heart. I don’t want the cat to get close to a nest either!

Sure, but the gray jays resemble doves to me. There are such different colors depending on their state or surroundings.

Yes, I think they are in the dove family!
