Tuesday Photo Challenge – Look Forward
We left on Friday, March 24, from southern California to visit our daughter and son-in-law in Portland, Oregon. We just came back yesterday, March 28. We had a wonderful family time together.
The rain in Portland is scattered. Upon our arrival on Friday, after check-in to the hotel, we went out for lunch. During lunch time, there was pouring rain. We didn’t bring the umbrella with us, and worried that we might be soaking wet walking back to the hotel. Yet by the time we were done with lunch, the sun was peeking out, the rain stopped. After being in Portland on a regular basis, I can’t help but notice that the local people don’t wear raincoats, or use umbrellas.
Initially we were going to go to the Tulip Festival. After finding out that the tulips were not in bloom yet, we decided to cancel our trip. Furthermore, the map showed that there were 10 incidents on the freeway on a rainy Saturday.
The weekend with Mercy and Will was wonderful. Mercy and I enjoy playing table games. We played Mastermind on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Then the four of us played Tickets to Ride on both Evenings. We are thrilled to play games together because we are competitive and compatible. It makes the playing more exciting and enjoyable!
Sunday evening was our second time making homemade pizza using tiles in the oven. Mercy and Will are vegetarian. I am quasi-vegetarian just because of the way I was brought up. I eat vegetables more than meat. My husband like pepperoni and extra cheese on his. Each of us created our own toppings. It was the best pizza in town because it was exactly the way we liked it!
Now that my husband is retired, we can go visit Mercy and Will anytime, and stay as long as we want. My husband was so happy that he didn’t have to worry about going to work upon returning home. We look forward to our frequent visit of Mercy and Will in the future! In fact, the next trip is on Mother’s Day weekend!

The family photos are the best memories and if the trip is accompanied with a good pizza, it tastes better. They are great.

How nice of you to be able to visit your daughter. I really miss seeing mine. We don’t get to visit very often as I am in Indiana and she is in Georgia. All the relatives including her have dogs or cats and I’m allergic, so it’s hard to always pay for hotels everywhere we go. 😩 Happy retirement to your husband! 🎉 Enjoy!

I’m allergic to dogs and cats also. My daughter doesn’t have any so far. She just plays with a neighbor’s cat. We are going to see them again for Mother’s day. We are not working, they are working, so we don’t mind going. It’s must be hard not to see your daughter as often as you like! 🙂

Well, I’m glad you get to visit! Yes, I miss my baby girl a lot. We are presently working on a website, together, about family life/decorating etc.., even though we are separated by distance. 🙂 I’ve been spending a lot of time there trying to create it…lots of work!

That is a wonderful project. My daughter is interested in co-author a book or something like that with me. Right now she is getting ready for the baby to come. Some of my posts will be included in my future publication, but I’m not in a hurry!

That pizza makes my mouth water, what can say, I’m a pizza addict. I also live in a city known for its rain (Manchester, England) and you never see me with an umbrella–I don’t use them!

Haha, I’m getting used to it also. I have a hood on my jacket if I want to use. I know, when we were in London for 6 or 7 days, it rained off and on quite a bit. One day we visited my husband’s cousin, we just stayed home all day, BBQ in the rain!!

The one in the oven was my husband’s. He did the whole thing – from dough to toppings, by himself. I should ask him to do more cooking at home, haha!!

Yes. He has talent. A friend of mine built himself a pizza oven and his pizzas are awesome too. You could sit back and enjoy…

Perhaps we are fortunate where we are that distances are small and family can get together for a meal easily. And it is love that binds family together, prompting great effort and planning to reach across time and space to be with each other

Hi Miriam!
Looks like you had a wonderful weekend..And the homemade pizza looks delicious!😋
It’s fun to play games with family..Feels special and different. This post brought nostalgia of playing carroms with my family during holiday evenings.
Love,
Surya

Hi Surya, thank you so much for your comment! Yes, we all wish we could be with our family all the time. It’s a hard thing to do these days for many, many reasons. I wish we could move to be close to them, but we have things established where we are. So all we could do is to make frequent visits. I’m sure you have great memories with your family also. Love and many blessings to you! Miriam

Thank you so much!!! Shhh, she is expecting! I wrote 2 lines of music for your lyrics this morning. Let me see if I have inspiration to write a couple lines at a time!

Oh wow! She is expecting? That’s wonderful! And also that you’ve written lines of music for my poem/lyrics… Now I’m really, really excited! No one has ever done this for me. Thank you so very much! God bless you! 🙂

I have to be patient. I’m not mozart. He took no time to write a symphony. I do it very slowly. I’ll let you know when it’s done. Also I could only write the melody, I don’t know how to write chords. I may find someone to play impromptu, but he doesn’t have time to write down the chords either. I’ll let you know more later!
