Years ago, under a difficult situation
I started having high blood pressure.
Dosage of medication kept
Increased by measure, to
Keep my head from under water.
~
Crisis came to a closure after years
Losing tens of thousands of dollars
Still took med and frequent monitor
Without the constant pressure
My heart beats gradually got slower
~
It kept a steady pace for years
Decided to get rid of the med with
Doctor’s permission
Dosage was decreased by 10 mg at a time
Inform the doctor was always on my mind
~
Had the lower dosage more than
Three months before making any changes
Exercise and diet were the combination
Five years had gone by and
Finally to my med a good bye
~
The only time my high blood pressure spikes is
When I have medical appointments
The doctor said my nervousness is a
White Coat Syndrome
A friend and I were just talking about this, as I had a Dr. appt. the other day and every time I go my blood pressure is high, but only there. Otherwise it’s actually low. So glad you are able to come off the meds and all is well!! 🙂
Yes, I’m okay. My doctor gave me some sample med. in case I need it for special occasion. Last time was for extract a tooth. The dentist wouldn’t do it unless my blood pressure was lower than 140. Appoint cancelled for first visit. So I took the med and went again!
It always makes me wonder: how come so many new problems relate to stress or anxiety? I’m sorry to hear about this… One more. At the same time I’m so relieved and happy to hear that management helped.
Stress and anxiety were not studied as much as present days. I taught a class about ‘anger.’ Anger is not the primary emotion, it’s secondary, it’s caused by the primary emotion such as grieve, etc… More people are aware of the cause of stress and anxiety and the results of them such as having skin problem…
My sister suffered from stress when her husband had a kidney failure. I pointed out to her. Eventually, she took more time off from work, did more family fun thing while taking medication. She was okay afterwards. Relax and have fun is a good way to reduce stress. For me, I do gardening and listen to music!!
Life takes over sometimes but families are such a treasure! Great, I love those too … Though I must admit I’ve been more ‘wordy’ than ‘dirty’ this year😉
Exactly! Good thing that when I go to my family doctor, my blood pressure is perfect 120 over 70. So when I told him about my problem when going to other doctors, he just wrote the diagnosis on my medical record that I have White Coat Syndrome. So I told all the other doctors!
I’m sure that was quite a relief, and I bet exercise and diet helped tremendously. But I completely understand White Coat syndrome…I actually have to give myself time to relax and think happy thoughts whenever I get my blood pressure measured. What a perfect take on the prompt of ‘nervous!’
I know, think about not to be nervous makes me nervous! I have to do something else, like play a game… not to take i right after I have coffee…Thank you that you understand!!

I have white coast syndrome too. Had it since I was a kid. And no I don’t take pills because otherwise it is just fine.

Thank you for the encouragement. Pills are not good for retired folks.

Not even for the not retired, if you think of it…

They are not good for the live. My live enzyme was elevated because couldn’t process the med.

I see. I am sorry to hear that. The good thing is that you are weaned off them. Take care.

I can relate — my old doc used to have the nurse take my blood pressure at the end of our appointments because my anxiety would make things crazy!

Oooohhh, that’s the trick! I’ll tell my doctors!

I tend to get nervous when they take my vitals which, of course, throws off the reading and then the doc thinks I have heart/blood pressure problems 😂

Oh yes, good point about the coffee! And also definitely not when I’m upset or excited. Hard to accomplish at the doc’s office :0

Haha! I do too. 🙂 Actually they end up taking it twice or more sometimes and there’s a difference from the first to the last.
