Reflecting on the Reflection
Sitting by Laguna Lake, looking at the reflection in the water of the surrounding, made me reflecting on the life of the lake in the past twenty some years. Before 2004, a quarter of the lake was covered by Lotus patches. The Lotus flowers were gorgeous. Ducks used to lay eggs on the patches.
Laguna Lake is under the charge of Parks and Recreation Commission of City of Fullerton, California. In year 2004, the lake was undergoing a restoration project. In the midst of the project, a giant 4-foot-long, 100 pound turtle was discovered. Eventually the turtle was housed in Arboretum and then toured for exhibitions.

I grew up not too far from Fullerton. I was born in Orange and grew up in Yorba Linda. I miss the days of smelling the orange blossoms in the air. Oh, and the weather of course. 😊

All the orange patches are gone and replaced with buildings. We have an orange tree in the backyard. It must be common in those days when building the homes.

I know, kind of sad. We used to have an olive tree in our front yard but I also dad growing peach and apricot trees when we lived in Santa Ana. Now those are some of the things I miss about California as well as beautiful flowers. But we sure don’t miss the traffic and the houses crowded next to one another.

Yes, the traffic is getting worse. Good thing my husband is retired six months ago. We try to do things off hours!

Oh, I see. I talked to someone taking a walk, she drives 2 miles to come to the lake 2 x a week. We are fortunate to live right by the lake! We may run into you…..!!

Awesome! I was just thinking I might bump into you someday! I’ll definitely stop and say hi! We’ve been meaning to go back and walk through the entire trail/area from the courthouse to the lake; such beautiful scenery. 🙂

Oh Xenia, you got a turtle also! This turtle posts for me every time I see him. He is the most colorful one among the rest. I wish I could stay in that position in yoga as long as it did…! xoxo

It was a long story and the discovery created so commotion, news media. I don’t know why the turtle is named Old Bob. I must have missed some detail from the news. It used a net to catch the turtle first and brought it up from the bottom of the lake! Yes, amazing!
