My entry for the week shows the Jacaranda trees in this 1930 neighborhood. Jacaranda trees are on both sides of Jacaranda Street and Brookdale Street in Fullerton City, California. Every year in the month of May, Jacaranda trees are in full bloom of lavender flowers. The trees are reaching out and touching the branches from the opposite side of the streets and create an arch pathway. By this time of the month, the flowers start to fall, the sidewalks look like a lavender carpet. The neighbors enjoy and appreciate this annual beauty.

It has a lot to do with weather and soil. Some plants don’t like my soil, no matter how I tried to mix it with planting soil. When I lived in one area in Portland, Oregon, the soil is so rich that everything grow, flowers are big and bright!
Oh Miriam, thank you. I love Jacaranda trees. Funny, I was running yesterday, and a number of petals had fallen from this beautiful Jacaranda, and I ran over them on the street. It was like running in my own heart ❤ Reminds me of heaven.
I love Jacaranda trees – they are so beautiful when they are in flower. However, they are an invasive species in my home country and are causing problems with uncontrolled spreading.
Jacaranda trees are very lovely to look at, Miriam. We have a lot in Johannesburg as well but they do deplete the water table so people can’t plant them anymore.
I have some ground cover growing by itself, I didn’t plant it, didn’t want it, so it’s considered as weed to me – like the clovers. But the last summer, I discovered that the yellow clover flowers attracted the bees that I need to pollinate my plum trees. Next year, the weed (clover) would be my precious plants :-). That’s what people say, the same plant some people it’s weed, to others, it’s a plant! I don’t know too much about what it’s considered in South Africa. I could do a research one it!

It’s beautiful, can’t we grow such trees in other locations. Rather than only this handful of places?

They must be gorgeous. Do the flowers stay on for very long?

About two weeks or so but some bloom later than others so we do manage a splash of gold at some corner or the other for a month or two

Some nursery recommend to plant flowers that bloom in different seasons, but I don’t go out to my garden too much in winter.

Oh no! They grow big, so if they are invasive, people may have to do something about it!

I could be mistaken, but I seem to think they have been declared a noxious weed in South Africa.
