Cee’s Fun Foto: “This week the topic is Gardens. Gardens comes in all shapes and sizes. They can be of plants, flowers and vegetables or herbs.”
I include a couple photos of large gardens, followed by my small garden with some of the plants and flowers. There are quite a few Date Palms in my garden. They were shorter than me when I first planted them. Now they are taller than me.

On one side of the wall, you may find some nasturtiums in front of and in between the iceberg roses. By another wall, the bougainvillea plant is in full bloom. My jade plants had flowers for the very first time last winter. Roses are my favorite flowers. Other flowers do well in my garden also. My small garden gives me a lot of joy!

We live in Ohio now, but loved visiting the Getty’s oriental garden when we lived in SoCal.

My first visit to Getty was to the one in Malibu. This one is in LA.

Thank you, Cee, for the theme! I could have a Garden Blog and won’t get tired of it…haha. My garden smile to me also, I just walk around it once this morning. Have some gardening to do this afternoon! Friday is our trashing pick up day. In our cities, they pick up all 3 cans on the same day!

Your yard looks so pretty and inviting with all your flowers. 🙂 But I do love me some palm trees too…takes me away to a tropical paradise everytime I see them! 🙂

Yes, palm trees only grow in warmer weather only. My daughter in Portland said that, once, someone tried to transplant a palm tree in Portland, it didn’t survive the cold!

If we end up moving to Georgia, I wonder if they would survive there? Do you have any tips on planting the palms. I notice you said date palms how are those different? I assume they’re smaller?

I bought them from Home Depot – Can’t remember how many gallons, but I paid $10 each. I look for healthy onew with 3 or 4 trees in a pot (I could barely see the trunk when small but I am good at picking plant). I planted them, added mixing soil and a good soaking. When they are established, they don’t nee too much water. Georgia should be south enough to grow!

YOur garden is look wonderful, Miriam. You have green fingers.

Yes, you’re right, not just my thumb, all my fingers are green, often full of dirt from soil. But the dirt dries my skin so much that it has cracks. I almost couldn’t pass a Life Scan (fingerprint) test for my business. The guy kept putting wax on my fingers to test each finger. Well, I should wear gloves! Oh, I got my green thumb from my dad. He kept all the plants so green!

That is a lovely gift, Miriam. Flowers and gardens are so important in life. I also have very dry skin on my hands from washing up after my baking. I also should wear gloves [smile].

Thank you for your comment, when I go to gardens, I try to visit the Japanese or Chinese gardens. I like the serenity with bridges, and ponds.

Thank you so much Brigid. I have to see how you decorate with your new plants from the garden. Didn’t you buy a tree?

No but I have a few trees already – a birch, elder, 3 apple and a rowan…

We used to have two birch trees. They both died. We have one cut down, but still keeping one with just the trunk, no branches! We like the look of it!

Yes. I love birch trees. They like the Irish weather!

Maybe it’s too warm here for birch trees!

Thank you so much, Sandy! Yes, it’s therapeutic for me to work in my garden, and it’s a delight to see the beautiful come out from dirtying my fingers and clothing! I’m a little bit behind in my gardening…

We have had so much rain, we are behind in planting, also.

We had too much rain in the winter. One dam at northern CA broke at a point and caused land sliding. When the rain stopped, I planted some flowers.
