In my previous post “A Tribute to My Dad,” I wrote about how he influenced me on the importance of education. Another major influence came from my childhood hero, President Abraham Lincoln, and how he eagerly learned as a child. Both parents of little Abe were illiterate. His mother, Nancy believed in the importance of education. Schools were uncommon in the lightly populated areas. When Abe was about seven, a school opened nine miles away. His mother insisted to Abe’s father, Tom that children ought to be allowed to attend. Nancy walked the two children, Abe and his sister to school, 2.5 – 3 hours each way. It was a major commitment. The school didn’t last long, however the importance of education was impressed upon Abe’s mind.
The rest of Abe’s childhood and young adult story continued to impress me how persistent he was in his pursue of education and law in particular. He became the sixteenth President of U.S.A.
His humble childhood, his love and commitment in education resulting in his presidency were motivational and inspirational to me. I have been a lifelong learner because of the influence of my Dad and my heroes.
Yes, somehow he impressed me a lot. As far as presidents, Reagan would be my second hero. As busy as he was, still hand wrote letters to his grandson. His love for Nancy is incredible.
I’m an admirer of FDR. He exhibited great compassion for those who did did not enjoy the priviledge he was born to. In my lifetime, Jimmy Carter commands my respect and admiration for his lifetime of accomplishment. 😉 xoxoM
Education is the best gift you can give to any child. It’s the bedrock and pace-setter in an ever changing, competitive world like ours. I’m sorry for your loss. Nice one and thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much. My parents lived a contented lives and well loved by the family and church friends. My dad sat in the same seat every week he sent to church until he had the stroke. Everyone know that Uncle Lee sat at that seat. Yes, education is something no one can take away from me and you!

Politically astute, personally compassionate. Mr. Lincoln is impressive. 😉 xoxoM

I enjoy the thinking and writing of FDR and Eleanor. Perhaps I didn’t know or study about their lives too much!
