My husband has retired for a year. Time flies. He and I discussed our travel plans. One of his recommendations is to take a train trip to go north from Southern California. We could ride long distance and sleep in the berth of a sleeper car. Well, my problem is that I am a light sleeper. Any noise or motion would wake me up. The thought of riding the train in a long distance has to put on hold for a while.
Talking about traveling, I bought several round trip air tickets going to Portland. My daughter is due to give birth to her baby in a few weeks. My first trip is coming up on September 14, five days before the baby’s arrival. I will stay until September 23, and come home for a few days to take care of my business. My husband will join me for the second trip leaving on September 27 and will stay for several weeks to help out my daughter with some house chores.
This is such an exciting time in our family.

It’s an exciting time for your family.. I wish the very best for mom to be and baby.. I have ridden the Amtrak several times to southern Ca. I have never used a sleeper. I can’t say that it is easy to sleep but it’s what I can afford and I enjoy meeting people and also observing them..I always have my camera ready to capture interesting sights. We transplanted ourselves from southern Ca in 2013. We lived in Yucaipa and I was born in Palm Springs… I look forward to looking at your artwork..

I guess I did not tell you that we live in a small town in Oregon. We love to garden, so have had a great time growing flowers and veggies. This time around we have a pumpkin patch..

My daughter’s neighbor grew pumpkins on a raised garden on the sidewalk last year! I’m going to see her in 9 days! She is in north Portland.

Oh, thank you for your comment! My husband’s family lives in Riverside, one sister lives in Yucaipa. Thank you for the good wishes. I went to school in Milwaukie, Oregon 40 years ago. I just told people I was in Portland,easier to locate. I grew veggies in the huge yard and had great success. Nice to be connect with you. I think I comment on your other comment…!

Hi Miriam! So nice to hear from you. I have relatives in Riverside and children and grandchildren there. In fact I have not met my newest granddaughter yet, who was born in May. I had just been there in March to help out with their move to Laguna Hills. So I have had to wait. Wait seems to be my word right now…

I am so excited for you, Miriam. It is a strange thing but I do to sleep the minute I am in a moving vehicle of any kind, car, train or aeroplane. I slept nearly all the way from Heathrow to South Africa – 12 hours!

Yes, thank you very much. I could secure the seats as well as getting them for lower price. The airline must have overbooked the tickets around Thanksgiving. My daughter’s flight to CA may be rescheduled.
