Cee’s Share Your World – October 16, 2017
If you had to move to a country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
If I had to move, I wouldn’t want to move to another country. I don’t want to start over to make friends and establish my community. After my retirement, I have established my exercise routine, learning environment, community group, medical need access, and shopping for a healthy diet. This is very important for me to maintain this environment. If I had to move out of California, the only place to would move to is Portland, Oregon, to be close to my daughter, son-in-law, and my new granddaughter.
What color would you like your bedroom to be?
We just had our bedroom painted to be beige. Our bedroom is facing south, not too much sunlight comes in. Beige makes the bedroom looks lighter.
What makes you Happy? Make a list of things in your life that bring you joy.
-
To have faith in my belief. It is the source of my joy.
-
To maintain a good relationship with my husband. A harmonious marriage is important to be joyful in life
-
To be close to my daughter, my son-in-law, and my granddaughter. My daughter has been the joy in my life and the motivation for my living.
-
To be close to my friends and community.
You are s warm and full of life person Miriam! God bless you!

Such a sweet-faced baby photo! Lovely!
Is Mercy starting to feel a little less anxious about the transition to you and Will being gone? I hope so! I’m confident she will do really well. 🙂

No, it still takes a long time tho feed the baby. She sucks a little, then falls asleep but is not full yet. When try to put her down, she wakes up crying for more feeding. Each feeding takes 45 minutes all together. Even when she is full and falls asleep, she wakes up in an hour because she is wet or dirty. After changed diaper, need to rock her back to the second half of sleep. Mercy is still learning to tell why she cry. I go home on Saturday. May come back again. Mercy needs 6 weeks to recover com the
c- section.

Oh, that is so challenging, that long time for feeding. My heart goes out to her. Keeping her in thoughts and prayers! 🙂

Oh! Miriam, I was thinking about your granddaughter’s feeding pattern, and I just remembered something that may be helpful to keep in mind, do you know about pattern for baby growth spurts? They say it’s at 3-weeks, 6-weeks, 3-months, 6-months that babies have a growth spurt, where they suddenly start feeding much more than “usual” for a few days. I wonder if Autumn is in the 3-week growth spurt phase? – What helps me about knowing that is, it’s part of their natural cycle, and it’s (hopefully) just for a few days).
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, Autumn will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. She has been gaining close to 2 oz a day, so You’re right about the growth spurt. One other problem is that she is not latching well. It’s shallow and is biting Mercy. I’m going home for a week, then come back for two weeks, try to help as much as I could. Thank you for your insight. I’ll share with Mercy!!☺

Ah. The latching issue is a challenge. Has she been able to work with a lactation consultant? Often the hospital where you have the baby will have them on staff, if that would be helpful. They are sometimes a regular childbirth nurse who has extra training. One other thing (which she may have already tried) is that the position can make a huge difference. I remember having a lot of trouble in the “usual” positions and finally trying a different one that worked (such as lying on the bed on my side with the baby lying next to me, not saying that’s the “right” position, but I never would have tried it without it being suggested by the lactation nurse).
And, I know you and Mercy probably already know this, but if it works better to do a bottle, there’s no shame in that at all. When my oldest was born (in the 1980s), he was not successful at nursing (now I know because he was so early, probably); I pumped milk for about 6 weeks, but after that was not able to, so he had formula by bottle for the rest of his infanthood. And he grew up fine; I like to think of it that we are fortunate to be able to have the option, if needed, for using bottle-feeding or breast-feeding and still have a healthy baby. (And with a bottle, the dad can feed, too, which often helps them feel more included, and the mom to feel more supported.)
I usually wouldn’t be so forthright in offering suggestions, please forgive me if it seems too intrusive, but my heart goes out to Mercy as a new mom!

Teresa, I really appreciate you take time to comment. Yes they are fortunate to have good insurance benefits.she was in a very good hospital with excellent care. The nurses took time to explain and helped for the positioning of the baby. The position holding on the side is a “football” position. Mercy also used the shield in the hospital and the first couple weeks at home, then transitioning to do without the shield some of the time.
She had sevdral lactation appointments so far and has a phone number to call anytime. Several of her friends have babies weeks older and two neighbors shared with her their similar experiences. She was encouraged yet still has to go through the process. She bought the pumps and will pump when baby is 4 weeks, suggested by lactation nurses. She has plenty of milk at this point. Just has to go over some humps. She enjoys holding the baby when she is fed and content. That’s her satisfaction and joyful moments of motherhood!😄💖

The night time is still tough when they try to get some sleep. In one week she’ll start pumping to help with night time feeding!☺

I’m sure she’s glad to know you’re thinking of her, and that will help, knowing she’s not alone! Plus, you’ll be back in a week, too, so she’s got that. Or… maybe it went better, who knows?

Yes, it’s always nice to have a family reunion. I have a friend whose extended family is all over the U.S. They take turns to hold the family reunion. My friend know exactly which year she and her husband hold one in southern CA. Have a wonderful time!

Thank you! We had our first family meal last night at one of the rented houses, with grilled food, and it was lovely. A bit tense at the beginning for some folks with a long travel day, but they didn’t take it out on anyone or anything. A bonus was, my husband and I got here a day ahead and we had the chance to spend a lovely day together, went to the spa at our lodging, had a nice snack-lunch at the state park next door, etc. Fun!

It”s wonderful that you arrive one day early and relax before everyone got there. When we travel to Europe with tours, we like to arrive earlier also, so that we could rest before getting on the tour scheduled. Hopeful your family members will have better days ahead!😊
