My husband has been taking coconut oil for almost two years. He bought the coconut oil in solid form. He then liquifies it in hot coffee. Sometimes he simply drinks one teaspoon of the liquid form of coconut oil per day.
Coconut Oil
Real coconut oil has a melting point of around 75 degrees Fahrenheit. It will be liquid above that temperature, but solid below that. The difference between a “fat” and an “oil” is that one is solid and the other one is liquid.
In warm tropical climates where coconuts grow, and where air temperatures are almost always above 75 degrees, coconut oil is a liquid most of the time, hence the term “coconut oil.” In North America, coconut oil is a solid, really a fat, most of the year. But “coconut fat” is not a common term. Some have referred to solid coconut oil as “coconut butter,” but in fact, it is coconut oil in solid form.
Research has uncovered the secrets to this superfood that has healthy fats called medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), or medium-chain triglyceride (MCT). These unique fats include:

Capric acid
Around 62 percent of the oils in coconut is made up of these three healthy fatty acids.

such a great post and we have been enjoying coconut oil on and off for years now too.
i recall back in the 90s when some customers used to bring in their own coconut oil to fry their food in (a fondue place) and it was the first time I heard anyone rave about the benefits – but it went right over my head.
so did other things.
funny how later we “see” –
anyhow there was some recent news this summer about actual research that found coconut oil was bad. That it was going to kill us….

well mark defends coconut oil – as we all do
and I think in the study they used refined and other variables were not mentioned.
sometimes we can make research come out as suggesting what someone wants – ugh – or they twist it –
but unrefined coconut oil is truly a gift and your post on it is so well done.

I know, when I read or watch news, I want to know who said it. For instance, the political news in CA is so one-sided.
Like soy product, I look out for whether it’s genetically alterated.

We have coconuts in the tropics in various forms: cream, ‘milk’, oil, cubed solids, flakes and of course in the fresh fruit you can sip the sweet juices. In curries the cream is best, but the ‘milk’ which is derived from the flakes are an alternative. Used to run errands for mom to the nearby grocer to buy a couple of cents of the flakes… such nostalgic times…

Yes, now come to think of it, I had many form of coconut snacks growing up. Even though I don’t have sweet tooth, I don’t mind eating the coconut snacks again. I drink almond milk, I could switch to coconut milk.

What I like the most is that it has good cholesterol. My grand baby’s pediatrician recommended using coconut oil for dry skin.

Yes, one website recommends for hot oil hair treatment. I’ll try it sometime. I used to use 7 seeds oil for hair treatment.
