We arrived Anchorage on May 18, 2018. The sunrise is 5:00 a.m. and sunset is 11:00 p.m. When we landed at 9:30 p.m. it was still bright but dreary because it had been raining. I was so worried about the tour to Denali. Denali is at 20,320 feet elevation, the tallest peak in North America. I was looking forward to having a glimpse of the snowy mountain range. The gloomy weather didn’t give me too much hope.
When I woke up on the day of the tour, second day of the trip, the rain stopped, and the sky was clear. By the time the tour coach picked up the passengers, I saw the blue sky. We had an enjoyable trip seeing the clear snowy mountains. As soon as we entered Denali National Park, the tour guide and driver could make frequent stops for us to take photos when we spotted wildlife. I took photos of Willow Ptarmigans, Snowshoe Hares, and the moose at different spots.
The snow was bright and shiny reflecting the bright sun. The tour guide indicated that Global warming is felt in Alaska to Arctic and Antarctica more so than other parts of the world. We witnessed the melting of the snow cutting through and changing the landscape. The global warming concern is real to me after this trip.
We returned to Anchorage on May 20 by the railroad train. It was cloudy again. The train passed by Hurricane Gorge. It was named as such because the wind could go 150 miles per hour. I included a photo of the Gorge.
We were recommended to go to Juneau, but we wanted to visit Denali. We only go for 8 days, so had to makes some choices. Thank you for reading and comment. 🙂
I’m late to Alaska but how beautiful and so sad that climate change is that apparent there already. We really do need to take action quickly. Just hope it is not already too late.
It’s too sad of what the leaders are interested in – something they can see happens right now instead of to the humanity or the globe. It takes the scientists to do the work and ask money from the leaders to reinforce it.
I went to a meeting last night that talk about family roles. One person said it’s not the White house that makes a difference, but “my house.” I thought it’s true.
Yes it is true but the White House can set an example. Sadly we have lost our respect for many of the institutions that we used to look to for guidance and example – the police, the church and certainly our politicians.
Thank you so much for reading, Molly. We came back to Anchorage last night and is heading south of Anchorage today. Hope to post more photos. I have to read your post for Hens.
Thank you, Nahla, It looks like the legs and claw are feathered. The feather change to white gradually when winter comes, so they blend in with the snow. They change the feathers back to brown in the summer. The male’s head is more colorful. ❤
Yes,thank you, we’re glad to visit the Park. We missed it by one week last time, the road to Denali is closed in beginning October to let the snow piles up. Train will stop going to the Park. 🙂 ❤
Beautiful photos Miriam.. We are Denali bound in a few weeks, so it’s nice to have a preview. Just hope some of the snow is around. Not a lot…just enough for the camera to capture. 😊
Oh good, Woolly. I hope you can see the peak of Denali. The guide said 20% of the peak is always covered by the clouds. I saw beautiful postcards. The peak must shows sometimes. The snow is melting in the Park area. They said in mid June, it will have a lot of flowers. You’ll see them for sure. It will have snow on some higher mountains. 🙂
Hi Miriam. Great photos of stunning landscapes and wildlife. Global warming and its negative effects on the environment need to become obvious to more people. Lovely post.
Good luck and yes, write notes…it helps and it will be quite a feat when you blend photos with notes to give the right captions. I look forward to your future posts!
Excellent photos! We’ve been to Alaska, but only to Juneau. We hope to visit Denali one day… cheers friend.

A few years ago, the ocean rises one inch a year. I’m afraid it’s increasing. We may be spared for the worse but it may come eventually.

Yes unless our leaders are prepared to act – which neither yours or ours are – I fear it is inevitable.

That is so true. They are as lost as the new generations – don’t quite understand the traditional values.

We were lucky to spot a lynx in the bushes… but it was gone in a flash!

We spotted a fox and a wolf also, but I wasn’t fast enough to take photos. I zoom in the photos of animals, but they were not sharp. 😦
