May 31: Flash Fiction Challenge – War Zone
May 31, 2018, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about warrior women. It can be myth or everyday mothers and wives. Go where the prompt leads.
War Zone
“Good morning, Lieutenant? You’ve slept for three days.”
“Where am I? My legs? I can’t feel anything.”
“They found you after the bombing. You’re alive.”
“Sheila, we need you. The Captain is hurt.”
“Right over, Ursula.”
“The blood is gushing out from his chest.”
“Roll up the sheet to put pressure on it. Give him porphin.”
“Sheila, more stretches are in. We have no beds.”
“Clear up all the tables.”
“Sheila, here. Private got shot through the elbow.”
“I’ll prepare to cut his forearm. Bring me the equipment.”
“Sheila, over there.”
“Captain needs a blood transfusion.”
“I’ll be there.”

Warriors mending warriors. Such tragic situations we put our men and women in, Miriam.

Yes, sometimes it’s just because of one man’s madness.

Wow. This is like ‘Mash’ without the comedic relief, Miriam. You said a lot in 99 words. Well done.

Thank you so much, Molly. When my husband’s brother came back from Afghanistan, he volunteered to go to Iraq. I couldn’t understand that. We’re glad he came home in one piece.

The war and its brave causalities are a grim reminder of the bloody stain on mankind. It had to be replaced with peace. Your tale gave a glimpse of such a scene Miriam!

Thank you, Radhika. My husband’s brother escaped such causalities.

My busband’s brother went to Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq as Lieutenant in special force. When he retired and came back from Iraq, his replacement was killed in the second week of his assignment. It could have been him!

Ghastly reminder of war and casualties of war. Peace is much needed. Good post to remind us that in war everyone loses. I am hoping Trump and Kim Summit goes well for world peace.🕊🕊
