Lens-Artist Photo Challenge: #13 Look Up
When I saw Patti’s prompt for Lens-Artist Photo Challenge: #13 Look Up. I know exactly what photos I have for this post.
Among all the countries we’ve traveled, Spain is one country where I spent a lot of time “looking up.” I love the Spanish architecture in general and I was most impressed with the architecture of cathedrals. When we visited the Great Mosque of Córdoba, I was walking with my head tilted, looking up and taking photos to an extent that I lost my tour group. I was panic because that place is enormous. The tour guide took the group to go from one Chapel to the other. Fortunately (most of the time), I could locate my 6’4″ husband. I quickly rejoined the group.
It was fun finding the photos from my Spain trip for this post.

These pictures are gorgeous, Miriam! Antoni Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia Cathedral is truly a work of art. My father was from Barcelona, Spain. People tend to look all around them and miss the beauty that’s above. Brilliant post!

Thank you, Vashti. I have a friend who is a professional photographer by hobby. He took some wonderful photos of inside and out of Sagrada Familia Cathedral. When we go back, I want to go inside. The wait is very long, so the tour guide didn’t plan on having us to go in.
Barcelona is a fascinating city. I understand that Castilian is a elegant language. Does you father speak Spanish often?

He did. I lost him last year. Spanish is a very romantic language. ❤

Sorry to hear that, Vashti. ❤ I still think of my dad who passed away 15 years ago.
In the early 1980s, California schools were short of Spanish speaking teachers. Our superintendent lead a team to go to Spain to recruit teaches, but when they got here, we found out that the Castilian is not the same as the Spanish from Mexico. That was my first exposure the difference. When the contract was over, many teachers went back to Spain, one teacher stayed with us. ❤

I’m surprised that they went all the way to Spain when they had so many Spanish speaking countries nearby like Mexico, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico . . . The difference between Castilian and the Spanish spoken in Mexico is basically the difference between British English and American English.
I think about my dad everyday. ❤

I don’t know why they did it. I spoke British English 40 years ago when I first came from Hong Kong. Now when I hear it or watch the movie, it takes me a while to associate, like torch for flashlight. ❤
I don't think we'll every forget our loved ones. ❤

You’re welcome, Robbie. There’s a lot of history behind the architecture also. Some Roman structure is still there in Spain.

Your photos are beautiful. I had trouble to take picture of the Gaudi’s cathedral when I was there but yours is perfect. It showed all the design of the building.

Yes, I had to get close to the ground to get that shot. My husband was guiding me…

Lucky you. I am still learning how to make a good picture myself but mostly I take it with my phone:)

They are beautiful, Miriam. I’d love to go there too. Many people prefer to go to spain on holidays. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Nahla. I love the architecture in Spain. It’s hot in the summer. Local people don’t get out during the day. They start going out late afternoon. Restaurants are closed until 7:00 p.m. Some restaurants in the tourist areas are open for regular dinner time like our dinner time. When stores are open, we buy some snacks to eat until dinner time. We were there during their holiday, Local people went to the beach, so there was not too much traffic on the road. The driver loved it. It’s a nice country for holidays.

Thank you so much, Tina. I think I was close to lying on the ground to get the photos of Sagrada Familia!!
I always get the Cathedral in Córdoba confused with the synagogue in Toledo (I waited for a long time to get a clear view of this photo).

Thank you, Patti. I wish we could have toured inside. Apparently the wait was very long and the tour guide didn’t schedule one. It was very crowded. I was surprised to get a few photos!
