Martin Hurkens – Holland Got Talent 2010
I am learning how to use the new editor. In my Lens-Artists Photo Challenge post, I tried to upload a video, even though it looked fine in the editing but didn’t play when I published it. The following video is from YouTube. I just wanted to see if it works to post YouTube video and chose this touching story about Martin Hurkens.
Martin Hurkens always had a dream of being an opera singer, but he did not have the money to stay in music school. Instead, became a baker to make a living and for 32 years he baked, and his singing was mostly reserved for when he was home with his family.
When he lost his job, the Dutch baker’s daughters wanted to help him realize his lifelong dream and entered him in the reality TV talent show “Holland Got Talent” back in 2010. The 58-year-old “Pavarotti” won legions of fans and the competition!
In the video below, Martin takes to the streets of Holland like a simple busker would, places down his hat, and sings “You Raise Me Up”. Soon a crowd gathers round to listen to the humble baker with the incredible voice!
Miriam, this is a beautiful way to test the new editor. (I haven’t tried it yet.) The song gave me goosebumps. Hugs.

Yes, Teagan. the lyrics and his voice and knowing his background all add up to the emotion when I listen to his song.
I’ll try the video again later. I still have many basic steps to figure out. When there are several paragraphs, it separate them in different blocks. It’s tricky to add things below each block.
Thank you for your comment. Hugs. xox

It shouldn’t be too difficult. Save the video to your computer, then upload it to your media library, just as you would an image. I’ve done it, so I’m sure you can do it too. 🙂

You’re welcome, Vashti. Yes, it was a wonderful story and very dear to my heart. I wish I had become a professional musician, but that’s okay. I had a good career and comfortable retirement, now I can enjoy doing whatever I want to do. 🙂 ❤

Why don’t you prepare a vlog of you singing? If it’s something you enjoy doing and do well, you should do it. I would love to hear you sing. 🙂

I can identify with him because I couldn’t afford studying music, I took voice lesson and have been singing in choirs as music lover. I also worked in professions to make a living. So his story touches me.

What did you do differently, that the video worked? (I wonder, don’t expect an answer).

I just copied the link of the YouTube and pasted on my post. The video was one I took with the camera. Yesterday was the first time I used the new WordPress editor, same as Gutenberg. I watched one blogger’s demonstration of how to use the new editor, he had the same problem I had. The rating for Gutenberg is 2 1/2 stars so far. I wanted to switch back to classic editor but was told that eventually WordPress would switch it, so I just dived in. The very first post (I did three yesterday), I couldn’t center the poem even though I click center. Again it looked okay and centered in editing, but I I published it, it went to the left.
