Flash Fiction Challenge – Water Rationing
March 21, 2019, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that features a bucket of water.
Water Rationing
“This is the third year we suffer from the drought.” The Hubby said.
“The temperature was above 100o Fahrenheit for six weeks, too hot.” The Wife sighed.
“Our city announced water rationing, limits watering the lawn to twice a week, no hosing the driveway.”
“How do we wash our cars?”
“Use buckets of water.”
“How do you wash the top of your SUV? The city doesn’t know if you use the water hose.”
“There must be a way of monitoring.”
“Well, I know. You can still use the water hose, just put a bucket of water by the car.”
We have very bad droughts here too, Miriam. We stick to the water restrictions otherwise we could run out of water which is a scary thought.

It seems like the same thing happens to southern California, Robbie. the city next to ours will double the water fee to discourage people use more water than needed, in addition to the restrictions.

Haha – this was so clever! I lived in CA during the drought in 2015, 2016, and I remember doing all the little nonsense to cheat around some of the rationing laws (like using more water at work)!

Haha, I know how it goes. When we remodel the bathrooms, we went to the gym for shower. Something like that, use water else where!

Water rationing reminds us how precious water is, and we can leave car dusty until the rains return!

This is really good! You have an excellent short-story style, Miriam. 🙂 Love and Light to you ❤ and have a fantastic rest of your week. Blessings, Debbie
ps – I saw what other people wrote about California water rationing. I'd heard of this although I haven't experienced it personally. (I think you know that I live in LA.) What an opportunity to be grateful for the water that we have.

Thank you, Debbie. I’m getting to like writing short stories. We have enough water from the wet winter. 🙂 ❤

I remember a few times there was water rationing when I lived in California for a bit.

Yes, Susan, southern California depends on the water from northern California. We had a wet winter and it rained up to a week ago, hope we’ll be okay this summer.

I know what those six weeks of heat feel like. We’ve had a hot summer – and are still having it! 🙂 If we don’t get some rain soon, we’ll have water restrictions too. Thankfully, some of our drought-affected areas have received some good rains.

The year we went to Australia, Lynton’s aunt said they couldn’t water the lawn effectively in October. We went in August, I think. 🙂

It can be an issue all over. We seem to be hit with all sorts of weather at the moment – droughts, floods, fires – and so many temperature records are being broken.

Same happens her in California last summer and winter that is barely over.

If it makes our lives difficult, how difficult it must be for those without water service.

I know, Norah. I remember Robbie taking buckets of water to Cape town.
