Colleen’s Poetry Challenge – Spring Dance
It’s the first of the month! Happy April! Poets choose their own words!
I visited the nursery this morning to get new flowers. I brought a list with plants that attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
The bees have been working hard to pollinate the plum and orange blossoms. The apple trees just budded. I want to have different flowers to attract the bees to stay around. Besides the fruit tree blossoms, I’ll plant sunflowers for the bees.
For the hummingbirds, there are two feeders, one in the front yard and one in the back. Yet I wanted to get flowers with nectar enjoyed by the hummingbirds. I only have Salvia flowers they like. So, I’ll make hanging baskets with petunia and hang them by the bird feeders.
There were Monarch and Mourning Cloak butterflies flying by my garden, but they visited the flowers in my next-door neighbor. I would like to have flowers attract them to stay longer. For the butterflies, I bought marigold and delphinium. I’ll get milkweed on my next trip.
Bitter cold is gone
Fresh fragrance drifts in the air
Chirping, fluttering
Answered the invitation
Creatures joined in the spring dance

Thank you, Hélène. My baby hummingbird is grown. He flies further away and I only see him once a day. I feel like a parent seeing a kid going away!

Oh, how lovely it is flying free now, sad to have him go, the pleasure of having him will stay in your heart. Once a day, is better than nothing at all. You are a proud hummingbird mommy…🤣

Thank you, Hélène. I didn’t see him all day on Sunday. It worried me and wished to see him being okay. He dropped by the last two days. 🙂

I’m relieved to see him. The papa bird tries to get him fly in a further distance. I must think that it’s good for him. 🙂

I suppose these birds know what they are doing.

Yes, I think so. The baby may join other birds to fly south next winter.

WP has been giving me some problems. All the sites I usually follow say I am not following…I wonder what that is all about.

I don’t understand either. I have to check from time to time and follow again. I can’t trust them.

I love your ‘Spring Dance’, Miriam, your photos are stunning and lovely poem. No butterflies here yet, but warmer next week so hoping I can get a chance to get in the garden and get planting. I have lavendar, salvia and budleah (butterfly bush) which the bees and butterflies love. It’s wonderful isn’t it to attract them? Your garden sounds beautiful, thank you for sharing and bringing cheer to my cold, wet day. Have a lovely weekend! 😉 ❤ 🙂

Thank you so much, Miriam. I planted the sunflower seeds too early and when it was still raining. The rain killed them, so I planted new ones yesterday. I look forward to see the flowers. 🙂

Thank you, Robbie. I was surprised to see so many colors in the nursery. I think all of their orders are in all at once.
