May is “Get Caught Reading” Month – Order posters of Celebrity Reading a Book
I want to thank Teagan R. Geneviene for reminding me May is Get Caught Reading month.
Get Caught Reading is a nationwide campaign to promote the fun of reading books for all ages. Launched in 1999 by the Association of American Publishers and now managed by Every Child a Reader with support from the Lois Lenski Covey Foundation, Get Caught Reading provides teachers and librarians with small posters of TV and sports stars, authors, and beloved book characters reading a book. Recent posters feature wonderful role models from recent USA Olympic teams.
Mercer Mayer is one of my favorite authors of children’s books. I read many of his books to my students and my daughter when she was young.
Celebrity Supporters Get Caught Reading!
Isn’t it cool to have this poster in a teacher’s classroom and tell the students that their author is reading a book?
Beloved children’s book author and illustrator Mercer Mayer and Little Critter—the character he first introduced over 35 years ago and who has been featured in over 200 books—are participating in Get Caught Reading together out of a mutual desire to inspire a love of reading in people of all ages. As part of the poster campaign, in teamwork with Silver Dolphin Books, they are “caught reading” an original copy of the book Little Critter’s The Trip, celebrating the print edition’s transition into a new app. For more information, check out their website. You’re welcome, Natalie. It touched my heart so much that Autumn loves reading. She remembers certain pictures in some books and loves to turn to those pages. 🙂

When I was a child my parents instilled a love of reading within me. Reading was one of my favorite activities growing up. Now with vision problems, cataracts and retina issues I had to stop reading traditional books. The funny thing is that I currently work for the Library system. But it doesn’t bother me because this is all part of the Aging process.
I do Listen to Audio books and sometimes read my Kindle because I can enlarge the type. But I more or less stopped reading newspapers, magazines and books years ago.

It was a great thing your parents had done for you. I’m so happy to hear that. As a retired teacher, nothing makes me happier to know people like to read. I’m amazed that you work for the Library system regardless of your visual problem. The technology is amazing also. It’s wonderful to listen to audio books these days. I have a blogger uses some device to read the computer messages and even the images on the screen.
I’m in the initial stage of cataract on one eye, but the ophthalmologist said it would take ten years for my eye to get to the worrying stage, so I’m thankful for my vision now.
Take care. Thank you for reading my posts.

You’re welcome, Vashti. I don’t know why I didn’t know about this organization when I was teaching. Now I know and I surely will promote it every year to bring awareness of reading. ❤ 🙂

Yes, she loves reading so much. My daughter was surprised to find her climbing onto the rocking chair in her room reading by herself when she was 14 months old.
