Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction – The Koala Kingdom
July 11, 2019, prompt: “My kingdom for a koala!” In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about a koala in a kingdom. You can create a character out of Norah’s koala and give it a Vermont adventure. Or you can make up a story however you want! Can you pull off a BOTS (based on a true story)? Go where the prompt leads!
The Koala Kingdom
“Welcome to the Round Table. The top agenda today is on Koala.”
“We had that six months ago.”
“I’ve met with Koala King. His concerns are about the millions of acres of their kingdom being destroyed.”
“By the developers for housing?”
“And the wildfires too. There’re no consistent legislation or adequate resources from the government to protect them.”
“What do we do?”
“The researchers suggested upgrading the Koala status from Vulnerable to Endangered. We’ll recommend that the government declaring the Koala habitat a sanctuary.”
“Yes, the Koala Foundations will jointly go to the government for securing the Koala Kingdom.”

I like how you made the entire post as a dialogue. And a great point too. We should be more careful with nature.

Thank you, Jina. I assume thata short post like this, dialogue leaves room for reader interpretation. I wish we could do more to save the planet.

If one by one, we all joined hands, we’d have a really loud voice.

It’s true, Jina. Many environmentalists and nonprofit organizations are working on save the planet, save the species, and by doing that, save human being.

I love the conservation theme of your story, Miriam. We do need to do more for our native animals.

Yes, the government wouldn’t take that as their priority. It’s up to the private sectors to present the cases.

One United Nation made a point above saving Fuji Island by standing in a knee high water as the cover for the Time magazine and be interviewed. My husband didn’t keep the copy. I want to see if my daughter kept her copy. Fuji Island will sink into the water soon.

I think there are many changes up ahead for us, Miriam, and not all are good.

They are such unusual animals, Miriam. I hope we do all we can to help them survive our encroachment. Great picture too!

Thank you, Diana. I love all the animals in the kingdom of the wild. When we watch documentary, I have a hard time taking sides, the seals or the polar bears. the giraffe or lions? I just have to settle for the chain of life. But encroachment? We can behave ourselves!

Absolutely. It’s everyone’s loss when we destroy a species, especially for future generations.
