Flash Fiction 2019.09.19 – Interlude
September 19, 2019, prompt: In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about an interlude. It can be a pause between two key moments, the pause between acts in a play, an intermission, or a temporary amusement. Go where the prompt leads you!
Key Change
“Choir, that’s beautiful. All the parts blend well. We’ll add something to our rehearsal.”
“What? I just got all the lyrics memorized.”
“Wonderful, Liz, you can look at me rather than the music score.”
“What else do we have to learn?”
“We change key for the last stanza. The lyrics are the same. Chris composed the interlude. Now listen once.”
“It sounds heavenly, but I can’t catch the note for the key change.”
“There are sixteen bars. Listen to the last bar. Hum the last note that takes you to the first note of the next stanza.”
“Got it.”

That’s always a good experience to have. My daughter was in a choir in elementary school. She now goes to the church with no choir. Most of the churches in southern CA do away with choirs. Our church has a shrunk choir sings on special occasions only. But I sing in a chorale from my program for the retirees. 🙂

Love the musical image: butterlies from the stanza.

Isn’t it great to sing and flutter. Thank you, Michael.

I almost hear music, viewing the butterflies still flying around the Finger Lakes late September. Want to ask, “Why are you still here, isn’t it time to fly south?”

It’s still warm here in southern CA and the butterflies are still around 😊

This is a nice piece, Miriam. Do they record your choir’s performances? It would be nice to hear you sing.

I have no access to the new recordings. I have some old ones in cassettes. I also received some in MP3 from a previous choir director. Let me see what I can do. Thank you so much, Robbie!

You’re welcome, Charli! I’ll be on vacation the next two weeks. I may write with paper and pencil first.
