Discover Prompts, Day 14: Book
Ben Huberman at Discover, WordPress posts a Daily Prompt throughout April. The prompt on day 14 is Book. He invited us to post something about a book.
My daughter and son-in-law read to their first baby, Autumn from day one of her life. No wonder her natural love about everything is reading a book. She loves to be read to and also loves to read by herself. My daughter has a website where she posts daily of Autumn’s photos. I picked several photos from December 2018 to April 2020 to show that she got caught in reading. She used to pick one book at a time and brought it to us to read to her. When I visited her in February, she wanted to bring six books to the couch for me to read. The bottom book did not quite align with the top five but she didn’t want to drop it. After several tries, she picked up all six books to bring to me so she would listen to them without interruption.

Who doesn’t love a kid in a box??? I think these photos are the best thing I’ve seen all day. Thanks for following the prompt with delightful scenes from home.

You’re certainly welcome. In fact I’m keeping track of her reading.
I hope Ben will continue to post the daily prompt even though I don’t do that every day. 😊

I think they should at least do a weekly one. Having something daily is a struggle for me, and perhaps for them. But it does help me look at my photos and experiences in new ways.

Exactly, especially they make suggestions for the prompt that help to focus on certain things to write. I’m going to save the prompts for this month and write them once a week as you mentioned. There was a PDF file of 365 prompts and I saved it but it was a few years ago. I hope to find the file.

The words are open-ended enough that you can fit the theme in a variety of ways. Always good to have spare words — and pictures!

Yes, many time I just looked at the words and decided what to write already.

Thank you so much for your comment. I may find enough photos of my granddaughter’s reading to make a book! In fact I’m thinking about doing it!!

I extra love your photos, Miriam. You have made me smile the most today. The “trading places” one tore at my heartstrings. I love when children dress themselves. I love everything about this post. Your love for your grandchildren is palpable. Your daughter and her husband are obviously amazing parents. Thank you for sharing some of the good in this world.xx

Thank you for reading and your warm comment, Erica. Every time I watched Autumn read, it brings me back to my teaching days. It amazed me of what little kids can do and she could read on her own as early as fifteen months old. I had students came to the kindergarten class not knowing all the colors, let alone ABC. Autumn recognized quite a few letters before she turned two.
It warms my heart to watch her natural love of books. ❤

Adorable! I love it and studies have proven that reading to a child from birth increases their intellect. I am thrilled that all of my grandchildren love to read!

I get to walk every day as there are fields and a river close by and there is a small shop nearby that has the essentials so we are doing quite well thank you. The laptop is an essential too of course. I suppose for you too?

What sweet pictures, Miriam:) My youngest granddaughter is the same way. The first thing she always does on a visit is get an armful of books!

Is’s it precious, Denise? It warms our hearts when we see grand kids love books. I think there are limited way to interact with toys, but there more ways to interact with books. They feel good when they can remember the contents and read them on their own.

Thank you, Norah. There’s no greater joy for this teacher grandma to see the little grand children have natural love of books. At her earliest age, she pointed to the pictures and said the names of them. Yes, they make my heart sing. Thank you for your lovely comment.

How precious! I got a good chuckle from the one of your granddaughter in the box. The box is an underrated toy that few kids can resist. 🤣 Have you seen photos of teachers who use these tub containers that their children can sit in while they are reading?
LikeLiked by 1 person
She loves to sit in the boxes and she loves to read and she combines the two.
No, I haven’t. I imagine the children had fun doing it. 🙂
