Sunday Stills: #Plant Life in My Garden
This week’s photo challenge by Terri Webster Schrandt is about plant life. Many folks are still limited to where they can go, but we can all walk in our backyards and gardens and enjoy plant life.
Garden is a sanctuary where my soul rests, my mind cleared, my strength renewed, and my heart rejoices. It is a place where I go every morning to listen, listen to the voices of the plants and the small creatures, and listen to the voice within. The garden nourishes my being more than the time I put in it to nourish the plants.
One Daylily plant I have is Wineberry Candy. They are low-maintenance perennial and have showy colors of flowers all summer. The bulbs multiply and I dig up the fresh growth to transplant in various spots.
Both Lily of the Nile Blue (Agapanthis africanus) and Society Garlic (Tulbaghia violace) multiply continuously. For years, I transplanted the fresh growth to landscape my garden. It turns out the hummingbirds love to suck the nectar of both plants.

The Society Garlic is below the Lily of the Nile Blue
This Salvia started out with two-2.5 Qt. plant and has grown into a lush bush. It is the most favorite of the hummingbirds. It is also where the bees congregate. I bought several more pots and planted two pots by another hummingbird feeder in the backyard, and two pots by the plum trees.
The always cheerful hibiscus regardless the attention I paid to it yet greets me with the gorgeous bloom every morning.
Have a peaceful Sunday and a wonderful week ahead!

Hibiscus! I’ve always like hibiscus tea. Do you make any from your plant?
LikeLiked by 1 person
No, other than fresh mint, I try not to use any other flower or plant to make tea. I dried the lavender (Salvia) and used it to make tea. Somehow I had bad allergy from that. I had one episode of allergic reaction and had whole body inflammation for ten weeks. It shocked my system and caused major hair loss. It has been six months from the onset and my new hair is about two or three inches. No doctors figured out what I was allergic to though.

Wow, that’s crazy! Probably best not to try again after that!

Yes, I know. I wonder if it has anything to do with how tea is processed!

Gorgeous garden Miriam. The lilies were spectacular. And I’m thrilled to have a beautiful orangey colored Hibiscus plant on my balcony. Got any tips to make it bloom fuller, or is it the more sun the more blooms? ❤
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hi Debby, that’s one plant I pay the list attention. It doesn’t need water. If I water it, it has white flies on the back of the leaves. I guess it’s sun that does it. When we went to Maui, a lot of the buildings use hibiscus as natural fence, perhaps for the reason that doesn’t need water to grow.
The flowers are not as big in the winter, so I think it’s the sun.
I hope you have a spot with more sun for the hibiscus. ❤

Thanks for that Miriam. I don’t have the best sun places, but my balcony get a few hours in the morning, I think if it was sunny all day the flowers would be blooming more plentifully. Now I get one new one per day ❤
LikeLiked by 1 person
Oh, one new one per day. That’s good. Considering you don’t get 97 degrees F, and even at 5:45 pm, it’s still 92. ❤

Thank you, Denise. So far I have a hummingbird family of four staying in my garden. A few butterflies flying by to visit my neighbor’s Butterfly Bush that has bright and big flowers. I’m starting a butterfly garden from seeds. It will take some time to develop but I want to bring back the butterflies!

Does he do children’s book illustrations? I have a hard time finding one. I placed an order with one person and due on June 16. I asked to see the sketches and he has not responded. If he doesn’t come through, I’ll cancel the order and ask for refund. Then I have to look for another illustrator.

I would not know will definitely ask him and he works for a company where they are into setting websites and digital. Right now he is working for London Dairy a chocolate brand. Yes some people will not know their work properly at all.

Miriam I just checked with my son he said send your sketches to him he will definitely help you but you will have to give him sometime, he will not rush and give you a shoddy job. You can send on my email.

Let me wait until June 16 to see if the illustrator will come through. I paid him already, but I can get refund if he doesn’t finish the job.
I’m looking for someone reliable and is consistent. I may do several books with the same characters and I need to work closely with the artist.
Let me wait right now and I’ll contact you after June 16, that illustrator has the project until that time.

I worked with a company and published four children’s books in Chinese when I was in Hong Kong. Of course I did it as my job so I don’t have copyright. But writing children’s book is my interest. I wrote many stories 15 years ago and just started to revisit them. Will see what happen.

Thank you, Kim. I was delighted to see so many plants multiply and I put in an enjoyable time with no money spent and made my garden beautiful. I’m running out of garden space. I thought of transplant the young plants into pots and give them away but I don’t think anyone would take them.

It’s slowing down Miriam. Better in Scotland then here in England. And where I live it’s low because Cambridge is a small town compared to the large cities like Manchester, London. I’m worried about my daughter going back to Manchester soon. She studies there. And yes the protests will bring cases up. Difficult one as it’s an important cause.

There is a guide with a whole list of regulations for any businesses for re-opening. I hope the same in Manchester and follow the regulations when schools re-open. Stay well, Marje!

Oh wow! I have a good number of mourning doves here. Last spring I also has all sorts of wonderful little birds. But then the pigeons took over. I have a few thrushes and several doves, but the pigeons still rule… they’re very messy and kind of loud too. The doves on the other hand (wing?) are soothing.

I know, Teagan. The doves are just cooing with lower tones then other birds chirp with higher tones.
