Sunday Stills: Home is the Happiest Place
The theme for Sunday Stills this week from Terri is: Home.
As much as we enjoy traveling, I always looked forward to coming home before the trip was over. Perhaps the tours I booked were too vigorous, and I got tired by getting up early or sitting on the bus too much from city to city.
I’m comfortable at home. This morning I spotted a Swallowtail butterfly staying on one flower for twenty minutes. I thought she came to lay eggs. I checked after she was gone. No, she didn’t, but I found a tiny grasshopper only 1/3 inch long.
About a dozen mourning doves, many house finches, and sparrows perching on the telephone wires around 4:00 p.m. every day, waiting for me to feed them. A pair of mourning doves came to fix up the old nest on Friday, June 5, and the female dove came back last Sunday to lay eggs. Now she is patiently incubating her young.
My home is shared by a family of four hummingbirds.
My home is the happiest place to me!
I’m even happier when I’m at my second home, my daughter’s home. Nothing gives me more joy than being with my granddaughters. So far, I only spent time with my two-and-a-half years old granddaughter, Autumn. I love playing with her and reading to her. I haven’t seen my second granddaughter Nora in person yet because of the coronavirus. I look forward to seeing Autumn and Nora when it’s safe to travel.
My daughter’s home is the utmost happiest place to me!
I love to hear what make you happiest. It could be something, some place, some people, or something you do.
Hi, Miriam! What gorgeous pictures! I love the picture of your daughter and her family, Autumn and Nora are adorable! I also love the one with the hummingbirds. You have a beautiful home and family, my friend. Stay safe and healthy! ❤ xo

I missed my daughter and the granddaughters so much, Vashti! Now both CA and OR are going backwards. I don’t know when will be safe to go. I’m not complaining. They’re doing well and we’re playing safe. ❤ ❤

I understand your frustration, Miriam. It’s especially difficult when you miss your family. The same is happening in Florida.
Our numbers of people infected are climbing again. I knew this would happen, though. Hang in there, my friend. ❤ xo

Yes, Vashti, people jumped back in too fast. ❤

We had a Zoom yesterday with our fellowship group. One person is an ER doctor. He said the cases increased after the protesting. It was the young people who were the carriers of the virus and their family members got Covid-19 from them even though the young people didn’t get sick!!

I think that’s what’s been happening from the start.

We’ll be in a long hall, Vashti. Hubby said Google announced their staff will be working at home until summer 2021. So the pandemic won’t be over soon.

I know. 😦 I guess we’ll have to make the best of it.

The schools here will have online classes full time. We might as well be prepared for this new normal for a long time.😟😔

All of the photos are beautiful, Miriam! I am in awe of the photo of the tiny grasshopper. Wow! The photos of your family and the children are adorable. I am with you, happiest with our children. We had the opportunity to hug for the first time last week. After that, still social distancing. Very emotional. We suspect a new wave will begin when some travel restrictions are lifted. I think we are all mentally preparing to quarantine again. I am grateful everyone is healthy in our family right now. Take care. Thank you for sharing a beautiful post!💕

So good to hear you had a chance to hug your family last week. What a joy. How we want this social distancing to be over.
I’m very cautious in traveling also. I just got an email from my daughter and I wrote her back. I would like tentatively plan on visiting her in mid August. Hubby is going with me to meet our new granddaughter. He’ll come home early and I’ll stay a little longer to get enough hugs and kisses. The airlines have strict guidelines for travel safety and I feel comfortable with that. Hubby may rent a car, and we won’t be going anywhere but just staying home with them. We haven’t exposed to the public except going shopping with masks on and walking by the lake. My daughter hasn’t gone anywhere else either. So as long as we know we are not bringing any virus to each other, I think we’re okay. Then we’re going back by the end of September for the older granddaughter’s birthday. Again, we’ll just see each other with going anywhere else.
Several of my friends do that also knowing the family members have kept social distancing and have not been exposed. ❤

Miriam, you and your family are being very cautious and doing all the right things to keep everyone healthy. The “enough hugs and kisses” brought tears to my eyes. We have been communicating a great deal with our daughters to make sure everyone is on the same page. Some of the restrictions are beginning to lift and I hope people will not become complacent. Take care, Miriam. August and September will be here soon.❤️

Yay! I’m still waiting for our borders to open up before my little one can see her grandparents.

I hope your little one can see her grandparents soon, Kelly. I went shopping two days ago. One major store didn’t have people lined up for distancing and didn’t like the number of people go in. They stopped serving the sample food for several months, now the news today said they will serve sample food again later this month.

I hope so too. Right now, we are FaceTiming them almost Everyday. We are avoiding malls and major stores at the moment except when doing groceries.

We do the same here. The news talk about second or even the third waves.

Home is also my happy place. I also derive great happiness from going to Cape Elizabeth, Maine. It’s so beautiful and filled with happy childhood memories. Your photos in this post are gorgeous, as is your daughter and her family. I hope you get to see them soon.

There is no trace of my childhood place except the names of the streets. With 7.5 millions of people living in 427 square miles of Hong Kong, the constructions are going on daily for buildings and roads. The places of my teen years are still intact though.
I’ll talk to my daughter soon about visiting them. The shopping today was almost “normal” except masks are required. There were no lines to enter Costco, and the shelves were fully stocked.

Your pictures are wonderful, Miriam. How did Mercy settle on the name Nora? It is really quite different from Autumn, but very nice.

They had a list of names and wanted something sounded smooth. That’s only thing they told me. In Chinese, the names usually are a combination of two words. Then one word is used and combine with another word for the younger boys or girls (AB, AC, AD).

It is a nice name, just quite different to their firstborn’s name. I tried to chose names that sort of matched. I love that idea of the Chinese. You had better put that in your book [wink!]

Haha, good hint, Robbie! I have to look up the meaning and origin of Nora. I was a mentor teacher to a Nora who is from a Japanese family.
