Sunday Stills: #Wild and #Weird Perspectives
This week Terri Webster Schrandt invited us to look at the theme of “wild and weird” offers photo bloggers a chance to share our random photos for Sunday Stills.
First I wanted to share this photo I took on my walk in a friend’s neighborhood. It caught my eyes when Mr. Friendly trimmed the grass to create a greeting to the neighbors.
There are some stray cats in my backyard. One day, I caught three but only took photos of two. They seemed to be comfortable around my backyard. I don’t know how they’ve survived.
On our walk around Laguna Lake close to our home, we were not short of surprises of the behaviors of the lovely creatures claimed the lake their home.

Rare addition to the lake – Egyptian Geese

Nap time for geese and ducks

On top of the world – white heron

He won the race over the hare

It must have taken some effort to write “Hi” in the grass!

I walked by there and talked to the owner. I think he used a trimmer to trim around the grass to make “Hi.”

I agree with Jacqui, Miriam, those cats look healthy! Great shots of your local wildlife, but I love your neighbor’s lawn message!

Hi, Terri, Now after Michael’s comment, I wonder if they were domestic pets roaming around.

I am glad to hear that you are all well. I am still awaiting my operation but I am okay💜

I missed that, Willow. I’m sorry. What operation are you going to have? 💖🙏
LikeLike
I was in hospital about six weeks ago they fitted a cholecystectomy drain and bag. I am having to have drain because it was too dangerous to operate when I was taken into hospital. The operation is to have the drain removed and take out my gall bladder. I see the drs again on the 29th when hopefully they will decide when they will do the op. 💜 Hope I am not boring you 💜

Thank you for giving me the update, Willow. ❤ It seems like you'll have a different life style after the gallbladder removed. Hope your next op will be smooth with no complication. ❤ ❤

Interesting — the cats are a problem for local wildlife, do not understand people who let their pets roam.

Yeah, Michael, as you were saying, these 🐈 cats may not be stray cats, but domestic pets roaming in the neighborhood. They have been around for years, couldn’t have survived if only depending on snatching wildlife.

I didn’t know there name. I posted the photos and asked the bloggers. Someone told me the name, then I looked it up on the internet.

I looked them up, too. I think your bird identifier got it right.

Yes, I have a couple bloggers very good at helping me identify the birds. They helped me three times. I just posted on my blog and they helped.

You captured some engaging sights, although the HI message looks a little sad in its surroundings. I particularly like the white heron, so regal and confident standing on one leg. I have to ask, though, what is causing that white churning of the water? To my eye, it looks like a gator headed straight for the heron’s perch. :O

The lake is maintained by the city under the parks and recreation department. It was completely renovated several years ago, put in new irrigation system around the lake, created some areas with rocks above water level. This is one spot and the turtle is at another rocky spot for resting. There’s .77 mile around the lake.
When the old water was drained, they found a 600 pound turtle.

Thank you for providing the additional information about the lake. It’s good that the city is maintaining it for people to enjoy. I can’t imagine a 600-pound turtle!

As you can image, the turtle created an exciting headline. I lost track of what happened, but I’ll look it up!

Yeah, we need more friendly neighborhood, Jacqui. Those cats snatched my mourning doves, so now I feed the birds on my patio ground. We may catch the birds some where.

Those are awesome, Miriam! I’m totally smitten with cats, so those especially stood out for me, but each and every one was fantastic. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, Mae. We used to have a completely white cat, and she let my then two years old daughter sit on her, kind of like a chair position in yoga. We had the cat until she died of old age. We had a poddle but the coyote came to our backyard and bit his throat.
We don’t have any pets after that.
