California fires
On this Labor Day, temperatures reached 121 degrees in Woodland Hills near the city of Calabasas.

Sept. 6, 2020, 5:08 PM PDTBy Tim Stelloh, NBC
“The National Weather Service documented a slew of record-setting temperatures across the state Sunday. In Woodland Hills, just north of Calabasas, the mercury reached a sweltering 121 degrees. In San Jose, it was 103 just before 2 p.m., breaking a 1923 record.
“As temperatures rose, the operator of the state’s power grid warned of possible rolling blackouts for millions of customers beginning at 3 p.m. — the second time in less than a month that a heatwave has prompted the warnings.”

Here is the California Fire Map.
I could look into the sun as the smoke filtered the sun ray. I took these photo at 6:00 p.m.
Please pray for the mercy of the weather, the firefighters, all the car units, and thousands of people affected by the fires.

Hope the fires die down for y’all soon! If they haven’t already, of course.

It’s awful, Miriam. Do they shut off the power to reduce the risk of fires?

The fires are caused by a combination of dry air, strong wind that blow anything that ignite the fire. Many dry vegetation doesn’t get a chance to regrow and get burn again year after year. But it’s more complicated than that.

I’m so sorry that this is happening, Miriam. It seems to be getting worse every year. The heat is bad enough and the fires make it all the more dangerous. We had thick smoke last night and we’re not even near the big fires. Please stay safe. Keep the windows closed and keep an eye on the news. Hugs.

Erica said the smoke drifted to Vancouver Island (passing through Oregon!!) where she is.
Yes, we keep the windows closed. Thanks, Diana!

Nature is so angry with us. Hope you are safe, praying for all those who live in the areas affected.💜💜

I’m praying for them also, Willow. There’s a fire site 26 miles away but we’re safe. 🙂 It burned 1,800 acres and 4,800 are affected by the smoke including us. The ash is falling in pieces the size of half a finger nail.

I’ve been watching the progress of the fires on the news with tredpidation. That kind of devastation is hard to fathom, very upsetting. I pray there will be no loss of life.

I couldn’t believe when I saw the temperature has gotten to 121 yesterday, Miriam. Even seeing San Francisco hit 100 was shocking. Its scary right now in California. We are going into power shut offs later today to prevent more and the air is so bad. Stay safe Miriam. Hopefully we will see some good rain before November. Xo

I’m looking forward to good rain, Denise. The closest fire is less than 26 miles away, and the ash is falling badly on our house. We got the warning of power shut offs but it hasn’t happened yet. Hope your forest is not too dry. Stay safe.😍

Thank you, Jan. The ash from the fire 26 miles away is falling on us right now. Friends flee from their home and stay with relatives. A friend’s daughter is a dog trainer. Hope all her dogs are safe!

Yes, Kim, this is the heartbreaking reality in this region. It doesn’t have time to recover before it burns again the following year. The ashes are falling on our house right now but we are safe.

Thank you, Miriam. I’ve been following the fires as I have many relatives in California. I used to live in Davis and later, the Irvine area. It is overwhelming to watch the spread of fires. So sad. Blessings to you and yours. ♥

We live close to Irvine, Gwen. We used to have people out running, walking their dogs, but not this morning. The ashes are falling everywhere. It’s only the first part of September. I don’t know how CA can survive from the fires through the Santa Ana wind season. Thank you for your kind thoughts and blessings. ❤

I really know how you are feeling Miriam. I hope this Summer won’t be like that for me. Please stay safe and be watchful and when you have to go just go. I did and am here to tell the tale x

I remember what happened to your property, Brian, and I saw your posts with photos. The fires started in August. Some are contained and some new fires just started. We’re in a residential area with no dry vegetation to burn but it doesn’t mean the sparks won’t travel this way. We’re watching. Thank you so much.

Yes a hot ember can travel a long way. Make sure your gutters don’t have any leaves or material in them as that’s how some houses burn when embers get into the gutters and the fiure goes into the roof cavity

Thank you for the tips, Brian. I’ll let my husband know. It’s cooling off a bit today. We’re okay for another day. We’ll take one day at a time until the rain comes.

Even up here on the northern Californian coast, it’s way hotter than usual. How close are any of the fires near you? Our son lives in Montana, and this past week they had a fire spread quickly in his area. It’s under control now, but he said they were evacuating people as close as a block away from him.

The closes one is 26 miles north of us and it’s still burning 1,800 acres. Ash falls on 4,800 acres community including ours. my sister-in-law lives close to a larger fire and we haven’t heard from her. I hope your son is okay.

This is all very scary, Miriam. No words. Only prayers for all of the people affected by the fires. I think you know I live on Vancouver Island. We have a haze in our skies due to the California fires. Far reaching and as I mentioned, scary. Interesting about turning off power-sucking appliances. Yes, praying. Hugs. xx

Yes, Erica, it’s scary if the smog and smoke drifted to Vancouver Island. It was 107F in our city today. We surely need to pray for the people who are close to the fires. ❤
