I don’t normally post local or international news, but I just made an exception.
(CNN) – Drugmaker Pfizer said Monday an early look at data from its coronavirus vaccine shows it is more than 90% effective — a much better than expected efficacy if the trend continues.
By Nadia Kounang, CNN Updated 11:08 AM ET, Mon November 9, 2020
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla told CNN that Pfizer expects to have 50 million vaccine doses globally this year, and 1.3 billion in 2021. Continue reading…

As someone who works in pharmaceutical manufacturing, this is GREAT news. Something people don’t talk about much – though I think Fauci did here – is that this is a new type of vaccine. With this tool in our belts, viral diseases stand little chance against us!

This is one of the vaccines coming our way. we watched the news a couple days ago that talked about the Chinese got the codes of the virus almost the same time as the virus started. One pharmaceutical was holding up a tube of vaccine and talked about manufacturing it. So there may be several kinds available, hopefully, soon.

Yes! Very excited.

This one is hard to carry out. It has to be stored in temperature below 75F. I heard of another one only requires to be stored in a regular frig.

I think it’s 90% effective? Of course, there’s always COVID-20. Still, I’ll be first in line.

It projects to have annual vaccine like the flu shot. I hope the process of administration is smooth!

Very encouraging news, Miriam. Hopefully this means the end is near for Covid. I’m hopeful. ❤ xo

I’m hopeful also, Vashti. ❤ We still keep our routine, no long distance travel, no gym, etc. until next summer, at lease. ❤
Did you get my email?

Oh yes, we still have to remain cautious until it’s officially over. Yes, I received your email. 😀 ❤

There is a family wedding in DC this weekend. We’re not going. It’s hard. Cases are rising. We’ll wait until next Sunday to decide on the Thanksgiving trip. ,💖☺️

So encouraging, Miriam. They’re saying a vaccine might be widely available by April! Woo Hoo. Until then, we all need to stay extra safe, but how wonderful to have a solution in the works. ❤

I’m very hopeful, Diana. Now nobody is downplaying this announcement. Yes, we need to keep the social distancing until then. ❤

I just hope it works! The speed at which it has been developed runs the risk of potential side effects not being known yet, but fingers crossed!

Yes, Clive. Hopefully, there are enough volunteers to test out the vaccine and check on the side effects. We need something though. The monster is not going away by itself.

There’s talk here of up to 50m treatments being provided: that is a heck of a test for a new vaccine! 🤞

I don’t know when they started to test with volunteers. I hope it was a gradual increase in the number. It would be risky to jump to 50m at the onset. Hope they’re doing the right thing and report the progress on the way!

According to our media there have been various trials around the world in a race to be first. This one is supposedly 90% accurate, so we can but hope…

Yes, Clive, according to the news, this one is developed with German partner. I hope it’s good!

That’s what they tell us here, with the additional piece of information that Belgium may be involved in the manufacture. I wonder how far down their customer list we’ll be post-Brexit!

You’re right, Michael. We’re careful. I think each state government still keeps the restriction. San Diego is going back to a limited outdoor gathering to 6 people.

Reblogged this on Stevie Turner and commented:
I thought I’d re-blog this post of Miriam Hurdle’s as I’m quite worried about the speed to which this vaccine has been produced. Normally vaccines take a couple of years to perfect, and here we are with a vaccine to be rolled out by Christmas after only a few months.
Am I alone in thinking that there has not been enough time to test this properly? Are you happy to be vaccinated? I’m not!
Vaccinations will start with the elderly, and then progress back to those over 65. At the moment I am 63, and rather relieved that I won’t be in the first wave!

You’re right, Steve. Months and months of news coverage, White House officials reported the same concern and timeline to develop the vaccine. I hope Pfizer continues to report the progress on the volunteers. The way science works are that they follow the volunteers to track their effectiveness. Right now in the US, more than 50% of deaths are over 65 and most were in nursing homes or assisted living. So probably this group either take the vaccine or risking of getting the virus. There are enough people in this population to use what is available in the first wave of the vaccine. I hope the countries use the vaccine will also report on the effectiveness.
The flu shot has been around for years but I only started taking it two years ago. Some states in the US don’t require taking flu shots. I think even when the Covid vaccine is available, some countries or states or certain areas don’t have the mandate of taking it.

I don’t have a ‘flu shot, but will probably have the Covid vaccination next year if it is safe to do so.

Yes, Stevie. We should know more the effects by next summer.

I was very encouraged when I saw this news today. A couple of months ago, I saw a shockingly low stat about the number of people who said they would take an FDA approved vaccine for COVID. I hope this attitude changes, and it proves to be successful.

Yes, Pete, I hope more elderly people will volunteer to take the vaccine. In California, the coronavirus daily tracker on November 8 shows 74% of deaths are the 65 and above elderly people who were in nursing homes or assisted living. The test could start with the folks in these homes.

We’re all ups in our state now, no downs. The governor and top public health doc are threatening a lockdown, and I expect it will happen.

I think people let the guard down too quickly. The gym here is open for indoor with about 30 lined up outside to get in. What were they thinking? Working out at the gym is the easier way to spread the virus.

We just heard the news that OR, WA and CA had a joint travel advise, travel only if it’s neccasary. Anyone arriving OR and WA must have self quarantine for 14 days. We didn’t plan to stay for 14 days. So we have to cancel our trip to Portalnd to have Thanksgiving with my daughter’s family. We’ll stay home. 🙂

I’m sorry that you had to cancel your trip, but it’s better to be safe. There are three or four states now that won’t allow people from New Hampshire in unless they quarantine for two weeks. My husband and I will continue to shelter in place.
