My Multitalented Muse
“You have a post to write for Diana’s prompt,” my muse said.
“I remember. I’ll do it when I get home from the walk,” me said.
“You can do both, walking and writing on your phone.”
“I know, it’s not the first time. I haven’t decided what to write, though. I took several days off from writing.”
“You’re supposed to write about your conversation with me. So just write what we’ve said so far and continue.”
“Okay… now I must slow down my walk. Good thing it hardly has any traffic in the neighborhood. I still ought to be careful. One eye on the phone, one eye on the road… alright, I’ve done this much. Then what?”
“Let me paint you a picture.”
“What are you talking about? I’m the in-house artist. Besides, we’re walking. How can you paint?”
“I’ll show you, just wait.”
“I see. There are words.”
“Exactly. Does it look like anything you know?”
“Well, half of it resembles something I remember and half of it looks disaster.”
“Remember now?”
“Remember what?”
“Of what it looks like…”
“The only thing I could think of is what I did for NaNoWriMo in 2017.”
“What happened?”
“Well, I didn’t write for days over the holidays but still wanted to reach the word count. I kept writing without the coherent plot.”
“What happened after that?”
“I put it in a folder, one of my many writing folders.”
“Are you going to do something about it?”
“I’m too busy to pick it up right now.”
“I know. You’re halfway through another project but kept going back to the beginning. Why?”
“I’m editing from the beginning.”
“Aren’t you supposed to finish the entire book before editing?”
“Well, I just need some satisfaction of polishing a few chapters and call them semi-done.”
“Don’t wait for too long before writing a new chapter.”
“I’ve been busy with another project as well.”
“I know. I’ve been helping you.”
“You have? What did you do?”
“Come on, be sensible. Didn’t I help you with the description of the book cover?”
“The last thing was the description of the children’s book cover for the illustrator. I thought I had given him a description.”
“You gave him a sketch of the book cover suggestion. He needed a description. You can’t assume what you see is the same as what he sees in the sketch.”
“Sorry for being absentminded. You helped to make some bullet points for him. Did he get the idea now?”
“I don’t know. You must wait for him to send you the sketch to see if your bullet points made sense to him. I can’t read his mind over the internet. I can’t talk to him either. He is in Ukraine.”
“Now what?”
“He would do unlimited revision, wouldn’t he? He did for many pages so far.”
“It took a year to find someone to work with. Three gigs failed me. The last one waited a month to tell me his grandfather died. I wonder how many times his grandfather died. This gig is busy, but at least he spends some time on my project.”
“I hope this gig’s grandfather won’t die too soon.”
“He put a lot of work into it. I don’t think he wants me to cancel the order, or he cancels on me at this point.”
“Fingers crossed.”
“Well, mate. We’re home.”
“Isn’t it a perfect timing? Now, just email the notes to yourself.”
“I can do that at the front porch. Until next time, my walking buddy.”

Wow, I can’t write on the phone at all. I’m terrible at it. I’d tell my muse he was too funny if he asked me to walk and write at the same time!

Haha, I don’t type on the phone. I swipe the words and 80% of the time they came out correctly. I do the same with text messaging. What I do is open the app, touch my finger on the first letter of the word and go across in the direction of the spelling of the word. If wrong, delete, and swipe again. My daughter taught me how to do that. It’s pretty cool!

I didn’t know you had all these projects on the go, Miriam. Great! I often have to stop myself editing and make myself move forward with the story.

I enjoyed reading this muse post. I can’t believe you type and walk at the same time. I know I would fall. Your muse sounds like she has it all together.

Oh, Jan, I don’t type. I swipe the letters in the direction of the spelling and the words would pop up. If it’s not the correct spelling, I press the back button to delete and swipe it again. I only need a little glance at the phone.

Your muse is right to prod you along, Miriam. The longer you avoid your project, the harder it is to go back to it. Wishing you the best of luck!

What a fun intro to your muse, Miriam. Thanks so much for playing. Your muse sounds like a good buddy for walking and writing. The new book intrigues me! I hope no one’s grandfather dies. Keep writing (and editing), my friend – it all counts! I’ll get this lined up for a reblog. 🙂

Nice to meet your muse, Miriam. I didn’t think I had a muse, but when you mentioned yours showed up when you walk, I’m beginning to think maybe I do have one. I get ideas when I’m working out. Maybe I need to investigate this further, lol.

I might have my muse all the time but didn’t pay too much attention. Diana shook me a little and I noticed her. I might have distracted when I’m in the house. I noticed her when I’m in the garden or out walking.
Thank you for reading, Teri! 💖☺️

Reading your incredible conversation, I have come to the conclusion that I need another muse, a younger one with bags of enthusiasm. My present muse is getting old and it might be time for him to retire…

I understand that perfectly, Jaye. I need a must younger than me, witty, energetic, and honest, especially being honest. This one can do ice skating. When she dance in music, it makes me feel I could fly.
Thank you for reading and your comment. 💖☺️

Miriam, a wonderful muse post for Diana’s prompt! 😀 I love that your muse is your walking buddy and to me this makes perfect sense … I always head out for walks to refresh my thoughts, to talk to myself … just didn’t realise I was conversing with my muse! Your conversation is filled with wisdom and clarity. I wish you lots of luck with your illustrations for your children’s book. Has the illustrator sent you any ideas yet? How do you feel about them? Your muse is right about using words to describe your vision. My illustrator asked me the same and after a beat I came up with all these images to describe exactly what I envisaged and which I didn’t even know existed in my head … and even more importantly knew instantaneously what looked wrong. Wishing you lots of luck with the book, once the illustrator’s muse gets on his case you’ll be all set! 😀

Hi Annika, my muse has been walking with me for a long time when I’m out by myself. I enjoyed walking with her more so than with my husband. 🙂 She’s with me when I’m gardening also. I always write better after the conversation with her.
The illustrator applied colors on several pages with which I approved the sketches. He is making revisions to some sketches after I made suggestions. The book cover is the last page he works on. I wanted him to do all the pages first to have a good image of the book before doing the cover design.
I looked for an illustrator on fiverr. I like that site because I could see the profiles and sample drawings. I particularly wanted the watercolor style. I query children’s books, watercolor style, and just check out the ones who could do it. They also list prices so I only sent requests to the ones within my budget. I got someone to do the formatting, also from fiverr.
I’m waiting to see how this book turned out. Thank you for your comment and your help when I first started, Annika!

Haha …. ditto on sometimes preferring to walk with your muse as opposed to with your husband! 😀😀 Fiverr is a great resource and my son has recently started offering his musical skills on their with great success. He can barely keep up with demand and do all his uni work. Sounds like the illustrator is doing a good job and mine also left the cover to last – although in the end we used part of an image in the book as it summed it up perfectly. Being on the same wavelength counts for so much.

Good to hear that your son is offering service on Fiverr. Is he specialized in anything particular? When Diana did the trailer for my poetry, she sent me a link to choose the music. It took me a long time to find one with the right mood and length. I finally found one with 3+ minutes but fexible ending by fading it out. I think Diana used less than 3 minutes, about right for a trailer. Do you think your son is interested in sound tracks for trailers? 😊😍

Miriam, although he writes his own pieces on Fiverr he is mainly transposing songs by ear to create sheet music and Synthesia tutorials. Thank you so much for your interest though. I remember the trailer of your book by Diana and it was superb! 😀

I read a book written by a monk. He went on walks and meditated and wrote down his meditation afterwards. It was incredible. He wished he could write down all of his meditation. I felt the same before cell phone. I wish I could have written down all of the conversation with myself on those walks. ☺️☺️
