Book Review – Oskar’s Quest by Annika Perry
I followed Annika for quite a while. When she knew that I was writing my first children’s book Tina Lost in a Crowd, she was excited and extremely helpful to me.
It is my pleasure to share a book review of Oskar’s Quest by Annika Perry.

My Review
Annika Perry’s Oskar’s Quest is a delightful story that originated from the author’s bedtime story to her son Sammy. The illustrations are artistic, colorful, and lively. Oskar is a little bird who fell and got lost in the jungle on the island of Roda. Bella, the red-bell flower, told him that Drang, the darkest cloud, had taken the songbird Maya. Oskar wanted to help find Maya, even though he was not a brave bird. He took off on his adventure looking for Maya, blown off by the gusty wind, and then landed on a soft surface. He heard a soft screech coming from a cage with Maya in it. Drang had captured Maya to keep him from being lonely. The sad cloud cried and shed raindrop tears. Oskar comforted him and invited him to come to Roda to listen to the songs. Drang agreed and set Maya free from the cage. Oskar and Maya united and flew back to the island in happiness. Drang’s cloud became light with brightness. He was not sad anymore. After taking Maya home, Oskar bid farewell to the flowers and birds to head home. His friends asked where the scary bird went. Drang said Oskar became a brave bird conquering an adventurous journey.
Perry did a wonderful job describing how Oskar became brave by helping others. A charming story for small children.

I gave one of my granddaughters “Oskar’s Quest” 1 1/2 years ago for her 4th birthday. She immediately loved it and still loves it along with her sister. Engaging, beautifully written and wonderful illustrations. Thank you for sharing a great review, Miriam. (an aside: I refollowed you again, wp says I was not following you – glitchy for many people?)

I remember you have Oskar’s Quest book for your granddaughters, Erica.
Pete refollowed me many times. Liz even refollowed three times in one day. Diana also refollowed me again and again. Bette refollowed me many times also. I follow my own blog so the posts show up on the Reader. I got unfollowed every few days. Whenever I have a new post, if it doesn’t show up on the Reader, I know I got unfollowed.
Anyway, thank you for keeping in touch. Probably we should keep telling WP about this problem. I’m going to do a print screen of your message and Pete’s message two days ago, and send them to WP.

You’re welcome, Miriam. I’ve pretty much conceded defeat with WordPress ever fixing whatever this unsubcribe bug is. Last weekend, I ended up entering all the blogs I follow into an Excel spreadsheet to make it easier to check once a week to identify what I’ve been unsubscribed from, so I can resubscribe.

I know exactly what it is, Liz. I did the same. I used Excel spreadsheet, and I created a page on my blog with all the blogs I followed. I also went to the Reader, under Manage, I turned on Notifications for the blogs I followed. I also bookmarked the on the internet browser. WordPress is driving me crazy and making me work too hard. I also have a hard copy of the list of blogs and checked off once a week to make sure I visit them.

I agree. We’re having to work way too hard because this company doesn’t want to fix a known problem with its software.

Wonderful, Diana. Yeah, the story is adorable. I bet Autumn wanted me to read it to her again and again. It’s 104F in Portland. My daughter and family spent days by the water. I hope your area is not so hot. Take care!

Miriam, thank you for doing all this. I’m glad they all work apart from the author website. It’s wonderful how the Oskar story came about. I’m sure you’re son treasures the story, Annika. Tina Lost in a Crowd is based on my daughter’s story when she was eight. I wrote The story behind the story at the end of the book. I think children and adults alike are interested in the background. 😍💖

well done with this post book review post. It brought me down memory lane tonight Miriam because I remembered a few of Annika’s shares about The Storyteller Speaks and then this book release – you reminded me how much I appreciate blog connections and now it is nice to learn more about them – like I had no idea about Annika’s German Language and Literature background.

It’s lovely that you remember the book launch and shares of ‘The Storyteller Speaks’ as well as ‘Oskar’s Quest’. I’m honoured by Miriam’s wonderful and detailed review here and it means a lot that she added some extra information about me as well! I loved studying for my German degree and spent three months in Leipzig (then still – just – in DDR / East Germamy!) and then a whole year in the beautiful town of Tubingen! Hope you’re keeping well and look forward to popping over to your blog!

Annika – I can only imagine how amazing your time in Germany was – with the lit – the architecture, the food (beer?) and the people – and as noted – it is fun to learn this about you-
And it reminds me that I need to feature you on my blog in the near future and so thanks again Miriam for the spotlight review posts to bring us all together – good day to all

Sounds great Annika – and in the 1980s in upstate New York – the best beer at that time was usually anything German! Then craft beers and micro brews came and it seems like the options have changed – I don’t drink beer because I am “keto” and while I hate that term – it just means I eat a certain way and beer is not on the menu – lol – but sure did love German beer back in the day
Have a great day and I’ll be in touch about our connecting and thanks again to Miriam

Pete, so I’m not the only one who has ‘lost’ lots of post notifications! Very frustrating and at times WP has even unfollowed me from others without explanation!
It was great how Miriam mentioned the initial origins of ‘Oskar’s Quest’ and I realise that this is something I should highlight much more. You are right that people, including me, love to learn about the backstory to the creation of books!

Everything about a writer’s process and inspiration fascinate me. I’m the type of person who doesn’t believe in recreating the wheel, and I think experience is the best teacher. Hence, I pay extra attention to the comments of those who have been at this for a bit.
I’ve read numerous complaints about WordPress in the slightly more than two years that I’ve been blogging, but I guess I’ve been lucky. I realized that I hadn’t seen any posts by Miriam and a couple of other bloggers in a bit. I had assumed (wrongly) that they hadn’t been posting. Somehow I had “unfollowed” them.

I followed Diana many many times and she did the same to me. Liz followed me again and again. It’s WP and it’s annoying. I did triple work. In addition to clicking on the notification, I bookmarked the blogs I want to check regularly and go by that to check their blogs even if I don’t get them from the Reader. WP has to do better, Pete!
