Update on our life and my book
I mentioned we canceled the Victoria, BC, trip and went to Pot Angeles in Washington. I booked the flight coming home from Seattle. My husband didn’t want to rush, so we went to Seattle the day before returning to Southern California.
I read about the Chihuly Garden and Glass in a blogger’s post. Since we would be in Seattle for one day, I made a reservation to visit this magnificent exhibit. The museum is right next to the Space Needle. Here’s what the website says about Chihuly. https://www.chihulygardenandglass.com/about/dale-chihuly
Born in 1941 in Tacoma, Washington, Dale Chihuly was introduced to glass while studying interior design at the University of Washington. After graduating in 1965, Chihuly enrolled in the first glass program in the country, at the University of Wisconsin. He continued his studies at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), where he later established the glass program and taught for more than a decade.
In 1968, after receiving a Fulbright Fellowship, he went to work at the Venini glass factory in Venice. There he observed the team approach to blowing glass, which is critical to the way he works today. In 1971, Chihuly co-founded Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State. With this international glass center, Chihuly has led the avant-garde in the development of glass as fine art.
His work is included in more than 200 museum collections worldwide. He has been the recipient of many awards, including twelve honorary doctorates and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts.

An update on our life
My husband and I are moving to Portland, Oregon, to be close to my daughter and the grandkids. I have always wanted to do that and even wrote blog posts about my desire. But my husband was not ready. On a couple of occasions, I went alone to be with my daughter and the grandkids for Thanksgiving or Christmas. My husband, Lynton, stayed in Southern California to be with his mom during those holidays. Lynton’s mom passed away two months ago. His siblings are busy with their extended families. He seems to be free from the obligation to stay in Southern California.
When we were in Port Angeles, Lynton expressed an interest in moving to Portland to be close to the grandkids.
I searched for a home right away. Then contacted the realtor whom I worked with for the last 15 years. After one week of communication back and forth, we signed an offer on August 28th on a home within a 13-minute drive from Mercy. Mercy and Will toured the house and sent us the videos.
We’re working with the agents and signed a listing disclosure to sell our California home.
We’re packing and will have everything in a storage unit by the 15th. We’re going to Portland on the 16th for Autumn’s BD. The agents will show our house while we’re gone.
Everything happened so fast. My head is spinning. We’re excited about the move. At least we don’t need to travel every six weeks to see the grandkids.

The glass work is spectacular! I hope all goes well with your move to Portland. We did the same thing back in 2011. It is great to be close to family as we get older. Wishing you the best on your new book!

Miriam–I am so excited to read your book. Our treatments were different, but our results are the same–we are alive! Wow, you don’t mess around when you decide to do something. I barely blinked and you had packed, selected your new home and put in your bid. Exciting stuff! See you at Dan’s next week! XO

Thank you for reading my book, Lois. You’re right, our treatments were different, but the results are the same. My daughter is my major motivation to be alive. She’s my motivation for our move also. We’re exhausted, but we keep moving forward. See you next week at Dan’s.

As a new follower Miriam, I don’t really “know” you yet, but congratulations on moving and starting a new chapter in your life. It sounds wonderful to be closer to your daughter and grandkids. I am also a huge fan of Chihuly, and saw an exhibit once, set inside a garden conservatory. It was magical.

We’re excited also, Priscilla! It looks like the Oregon home will close the escrow before September 26 while we’re there. If not, we can sign the paper and my daughter can pick up the key. There’s lots of prep work for our old home and lots of packing. It seems like we’re getting rid of half of our 31 years of stuff. It’s a good thing, though.

Thank you so much, Staci! When you mentioned moving close to your daughter and grandchild, I wanted so much of doing it, but I knew my husband was not ready yet. He did say it was because of his mom.
I thought you’d moved by now. Are you still in the middle of it? We have to act quickly because we listed our CA house already, but it’s not ready to show yet. We’ll replace the roof and have the house painted first. We’ll move everything to a storage unit in two weeks as the transition. You and I are in the same boat!

My house sold and I left Pennsylvania about a month ago. My son (in Arkansas) got Covid, so I spent some time in St. Louis with my daughter before heading down. But I’m here now. I just didn’t schedule furniture delivery yet. (NIGHTMARE!)
Best wishes with your move.

Oh, good to hear you sold the ghost and left Pennsylvania. It was a major step. Sorry to hear your son got Covid. My daughter got it long time ago but it was mild. We’re in the middle of all the transactions. Did you hire a moving company? We have two cars. Did you drive your cars? The last time I moved across the states was 40 years ago with everything fitted in my car. 😂😍
LikeLiked by 2 people
I did hire a company. I’ve been lied to from step one. But I can’t complain until I get my furniture delivered because I’m afraid they’ll intentionally damage or lose my things. A house full of furniture would definitely not fit in my car. lol
My daughter flew up, then she drove me down. When she, her husband, and my son saw how bad my vision has become (even with glasses), they all decided (without my input) that I shouldn’t be driving for 15 hours on the interstate. So she came up with the baby, visited family, then drove me to her place, where I stayed for a while until my son wasn’t contagious. Then she drove me down here. Her best friend (who lives near her in St. Louis) is from here and visits family often. So Sammi rode back to Missouri with her after visiting her brother for a while.
I don’t envy you the hassle of this move. But I am really happy you’ll be near your family again. (And I hope your movers are better than mine!)

Sorry about the problem with the moving company. I called a friend who moved across the states. She said the movers moved her things from truck to truck. In the end, they lost many of her valuable things.
Your input is helpful. I’ll keep searching for a mover. My husband entertained the thought of renting a U-Haul and driving by himself. Worse come to worse, we’ll do it that way.
