The first book today is the poignant memoir by Miriam Hurdle…it is an inspiring read and I can recommend The Winding Road: A Journey of Survival.
About the book
In the summer of 2008, Miriam Hurdle was diagnosed with melanoma-an aggressive and invasive cancer in her internal organs. The survival rate before 2008 was low. Besides risking harsh treatments for a slim chance of survival, Miriam had hoops to jump through. By the time she received treatment at the beginning of 2009, her cancer had progressed from stage II to stage IV. It was a rough and uphill winding road. I’ve been meaning to check in with you for some time, Miriam. Have you relocated yet? Perhaps you’re still in flux, or maybe I missed that post. We’re heading to Portland on Friday (We heard about the ice event expected up there that day) to spend Christmas with the family. Perhaps we’ll meet one another in person at some point down the road.

Hi Pete, we’re in Portland now. We closed escrow on December 7 for our house in CA, left early that morning and drove two days to Portland. We shipped the other car and it arrived two days after we got here. We stay with my daughter.
We found a home on December 13, will close escrow on January 10. We’ve been busy doing the inspections, meeting with contractors for many things.
It’s below freezing here. The water on the hummingbird feeder froze. Shortly after I replaced it, it froze again.
We’re try not to go out the next day or so.
It would be great to meet you in person someday. Let me know when you come this way again.

We’re only driving partway up today because we’ve been following the ice storm forecast scheduled for today. It seems almost the entire country is getting slammed with this one.

It was snowing last night. Kids had fun playing with sleds. It’ll be cold for at least one more day. Drive safely. You’ll be here in time for Christmas.
