I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day with your mothers in the family last Sunday. We wanted to have Mother’s Day brunch, but many restaurants didn’t accept reservations for Sunday. Just showing up and waiting for several hours wasn’t what we wanted to do. So, we had Mother’s Day dinner on Saturday. On Sunday, we spent the morning visiting Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. It was a delightful trip admiring the beautiful flowers and sceneries there.
I didn’t find any doors at Crystal Springs. So, I borrowed two photos from their neighbors, Reed College and Eastmoreland Golf Course, with doors.

Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden is a botanical garden located between Reed College and the Eastmoreland Golf course in southeastern Portland, Oregon in the US. The Garden covers 9.49 acres. The first rhododendron show was held in 1956. In 1964, the Garden was officially named Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, for the numerous springs within the Garden.
The original garden was designed by Ruth Hansen, a landscape architect, and a Portland Chapter member. The portion of the garden known as the Peninsula was designed by Wallace K. Huntington and was dedicated in 1977. The rocks used to build the waterfalls and other features were gathered from Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams.
Shortly after entering the Garden, we’re welcomed by an arched wooden bridge over a pond with waterfowl and water creatures. The garden is home to over 100 types of birds and other wildlife.

There are over 2,500 rhododendrons, azaleas, and companion plants in the garden. They are donated by volunteers and interested individuals or purchased with specially donated funds. Rhododendrons typically bloom from late February through July, and peak in late April to early May. The well-maintained Garden is a relaxing place to visit year-round.

I fell in love with the gorgeous rhododendrons and azaleas. I bought seven varieties and different colors of these beautiful flowers. So far, I planted two azaleas and one rhododendron in my front yard. I’ll plant the other four in the backyard soon.

You bought some wonderful plants, Miriam. Your yard is going to be beautiful. I love Rhodos and Azaleas. My daughter and I have been to Crystal Springs a few times to enjoy the endless flowers. It’s so pretty. Sounds like a wonderful way to spend Mother’s Day. ❤

Crystal Springs is beautiful, Diana. It’s a nice place for you and your daughter to enjoy time there. My daughter and I spent the first hour just taking photos. They bought a white rhodo from their nursery.
I had a great time gardening. I bought some New Guinea impatiens, geranium, pansies, daylilies, and other annual flowers.
There are blackberries behind the fence in our backyard. It’s in public property. We have to decide what to do!! 💖

The blackberries grow rampant. The berries are wonderful but they take over. Keep on top of them and enjoy the berries!

My daughter and the girls went on a walk one time and saw the blackberries cover the entire block! The girls had fun picking them. My husband wants to make a gate on the fence so we can go to the other side to pick berries!! 😅

That’s a great idea. Then just mow any that sneak through. We have one spot that we let them grow and we contain them by mowing. It works well. And they are delicious!

I think that’s what we’ll do! We love all kinds of berries.

A lovely place to spend Mother’s Day with your daughter and family, Miriam. Oregon has so many beautiful areas to explore. Amazing rhododendrons. Good idea to celebrate MOm’s Day the day before–food is food if you ask me. We don’t go out that much either, except Hans loves Taco Tuesday and two restaurants close by always have $2 street tacos, LOL! Your photography looks great!

It turned out to be a good idea to celebrate Mom’s Day the day before, Terri! We didn’t think it would have been fun to wait for several hours to get a table on Mother’s Day. Rhododendrons are amazingly beautiful flowers. I don’t know if I overdid it by buying seven pots of rhododendrons and three pots of azaleas.
My daughter wants to go to the Rose Garden. Summer is a good time to see all the gorgeous flowers.
We don’t go out to eat too often. We like to take the grandkids out once in a while. Your Taco Tuesday sounds good.

What a beautiful place. I love rhodos and azaleas. Your photos are amazing! We celebrated Mother’s Day yesterday with a BBQ at our house, as my daughter and granddaughter Ellie were sick last weekend. I’m happy that you enjoyed your day!

Sorry to hear your daughter and Ellie were sick, Debra. BBQ sounds fun. The rhododendrons here are so huge and easy to grow. It seems like every third house has a rhododendron.

I’m glad we did it that way, Cindy! Had dinner on Saturday and spent time in a garden on Sunday. I don’t mind doing something like that again in the future on Mother’s Day. ❤

Ooh, I would love to go through the Rhododendron Garden! It reminds me of the Enchanted Forest of Azaleas in the Norfolk Botanical Garden. (Good memories of our times there.)

I checked out Norfolk Botanical Garden. It’s huge, Liz. When was the last time you visited? I would love to visit if I get a chance. It’s almost like the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Garden in California.

It would have been prior to 2001 when I moved to New Hampshire. I do miss it. My husband, my daughter and I visited there on a regular basis.

It looks like a wonderful place to visit frequently. I can see why you miss it.
I lived close to “The Huntington” in the 1980s before it was fenced in and charged admission. Some students just walked in and studied there. That place is so large that one visit can’t cover all the gardens.

The Huntington sounds like a lovely place to visit (except for the fence and the fee, but I’d imagine it would cost a lot of money to maintain).

Thank you, Cee. We went there on Mother’s Day a few years ago. It was nice to visit again. I love how the fountain photo turned out. There was a strong wind blowing the water and I caught the movement. 😀😍

I love how you incorporate ‘doors’ into your daily life. You don’t go out to hunt for doors to use in this post. They appear. Nice post, Miriam.

I took a couple of photos of doors In the garden but they don’t go well with my presentation of the flowers. Doors in the neighborhood should be okay. Do you remember Steve Jobs went to Reed College? He only went there to take classes he liked such as calligraphy. They proudly listed him as an alumnus.

I’m sure Harvard listed Bill Gates as an alumnus as much as Standford wanted Larry Page and Sergey Brin to finish their PH.D. there.

What a wonderful outing, Miriam. The flowers are beautiful. I do like the doors, and for the record, you can always substitute a bridge for a door – I love bridges! Thanks for sharing these photos with Thursday Doors.

It’s good to know that I could substitute a bridge for a door, Dan! The rhododendrons here grow to two stories tall. I probably trim mine to the size of a shrub.

Here in Dallas many restaurants accepted reservations for mother’s day, but many were booked up. We still found a good one with a mother’s day brunch. Those are beautiful photos. Happy belated mother’s day.

Some restaurants accept reservations. I made one for Mother’s Day and went there for dinner to check it out. The menu was not impressive, so I cancelled the reservation. We used to go to one restaurant. It’s expensive. We don’t eat too much anymore and it’s not worth the money.
