Thursday Doors – OMSI and Update
The Thursday Doors is a weekly challenge at Dan Antion’s site No Facility for people who love doors and architecture to come together to admire and share their favorite door photos, drawings, or other images or stories from around the world. If you’d like to join us, simply create your own Thursday Doors post and then share a link to your post in the comments in Dan’s post. You’ll see doors in most of the following photos.
Hubby and I took our granddaughters to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI). My daughter gifted us an annual pass. OMSI is a popular venue for individuals and families with children. The girls have been there many times. Even though it was not too busy on this Saturday morning, we watched the girls closely. Lynton followed Autumn while I followed Nora.

I packed some sandwiches and snack items. We had a picnic lunch in the parking lot before going in. As soon as we checked in, Nora headed toward the escalator going up to the second floor. She carefully, with no hesitance, stepped onto the escalator and stepped out without delay. The Science Playground on the second floor of the museum is for families with newborn to six-year-old children. The area is enclosed and designed to keep children visible and secure. Adults can sit to watch their children learn through playing with interactive science activities.

We walked through the Life Sciences Hall with exhibits about biology. This one includes a collection of preserved fetuses at nearly every stage of development, from a few weeks after conception to full-term.

OMSI contains both an ultra-large-screen theater and a large auditorium with a stage where annual events such as science fairs occur. Before heading home, we watched the movie Autumn chose about space and the astronauts being trained to go to Mars in 2030.

It must be another level of being alert when taking grandchildren out for the dat. I remember how one of our young folk would wander off at the blink of an eye. It looks a fascinating museum. My children used to love HK Science museum and then onto London Science Museum when we had moved. Many Congratulation on the launch of your book. Really wonderful.

Yes, they feel so comfortable running to different rooms. We have to be alert all the time. HK Science Museum was not there when I lived there 40+ years ago. The museum is a good place for the kids to learn through playing. Thank you for my book!

An adorable post, Miriam. We have a science centre in Johannesburg that I used to take my boys to when they were younger.

Huge congrats on the sale and #1 slot, Miriam. Yay! Keep smiling and enjoy the glow.
It sounds like Lynton and his best-selling author wife had a fun day at OMSI with the girls. My daughter and I used to go, and she would want to play in the water area the whole time. It was always a lot of fun and a great way to spend an afternoon. Autumn and Nora must love having you so close now. What a treat for everyone. 😀

Thank you so much for cheering, Diana! I got a large FB group to spread the word for my book promotion. I’m glad it turned out fine. The girls feel so comfortable at OMSI. I asked my daughter to send bright color clothing for us to spot them! 🙂 It’s convenient to have us around for Mom and Dad also.

Ha ha. Or bright hats for when they’re in smocks for water play. I’m sure it’s a huge relief to have you both around. Plus great fun.

We had a fun time with the grandkids, Lauren. Since I made an announcement a few days prior to the promotion, some people were prepared to help. I’m thankful for all the support including your timely review. ❤ ❤

Fantastic news about the book, Miriam!! With places like the one you visited, when you have small children along, a membership is the only way to go. Otherwise when they want/need to leave after not very long, you don’t care what it cost to get in. 🙂 When our girls were little, we got a membership to the Natural History Museum in Cleveland and went there a lot. Fortunately, the wonderful art museum was free!

Thank you very much about my book promotion, Janet! You’re right about the membership, especially when you don’t stay long enough to be worth the admission. The admissions add up fast when going as a family. Then we pay additional for special exhibits and movies. The membership includes free parking, and we got free tickets for the Space movie which was about $28.

Kids love science museums, especially if they are interactive. I’m sure you will be back. Glad to see the book promo went well. xo

You’re right, Darlene! The success of this museum is a large “playground” with several rooms for interactive activities. Over the years, my daughter bought the same toys they have in this museum for the girls. Thank you, I’m glad my book promotion went well.

Congratulations on the huge success of your book, Miriam. I’m gobsmacked! I’ve never heard of OMSI. What a find. Did it look like there weren’t a lot of people there? That would be sad. So much excitement.

I was surprised, Jacqui! I don’t know how I got those numbers. I’m a member of We Love Memoirs FB group. It’s a large group. They posted my promotion. Prior to the promotion, my book was one of the 20 for their July prizes. A couple of timely posts with reviews helped to bring more attention. Your review and others helped. It’s a group effort! Thank you! ❤
I've been to OMSI a few times. The last trip was not so busy and there were no lines. The previous trip had long lines for tickets. It's a popular family museum.

The grandkids had a great time at the museum, Barbara! My favorite field trips for my students were taking them to different museums each year. I love going to all kinds of museums. I often take photos of the information displayed and read them again when I got home. 🙂
