Hubby and I had our 27th anniversary last Saturday. We didn’t go anywhere on that day because we planned a family outing on Sunday. We went to the Enchanted Forest. I took my daughter there when she was about four years old but don’t remember too much about it.

The Enchanted Forest is an amusement park located in Turner, Oregon on a small patch of hilly wooded land next to Interstate 5, just south of Salem, Oregon. The park was created and hand-built by Roger Tofte over a period of seven years in the late 1960s. The park first opened to the public in 1971. Early success led to many expansions over the last half-century, mostly built again by Tofte by hand. The Tofte family still owns and operates the 20-acre (8.1 ha) park, with three generations of the family involved in the day-to-day operations. The park sees an average of 200,000 guests a year during the normal six-month-long season.

Our grandkids had an exciting time running from one display to the next. The Haunted House played spooky sound effects. The little one didn’t want to go in because she didn’t like being scared. The older one went in with her dad but came back out. It was too scary for her. There was a dark tunnel without sound effects. The two girls enjoyed it and went in and out several times. The little one said to me, “It’s not scary. Follow me. I’ll show you.” I went in with her. The end of the tunnel was so low that I had to crawl on my knees. I was glad they had a fun time.
After visiting all the exhibits, the girls went on several rides. They loved to hold the tickets and wait in line. It made them feel like independent.

After the theme park, we went back to Portland to have an Italian dinner together. Hubby and I were a bit tired, but we had a ton of fun with the grandkids.

Yes, I forgot what that place looked like. The last time we were there was when my daughter was four years old.

It was a fun place, Smitha! The kids were excited. They were exhausted and slept in the car all the way home.
