Tanka Tuesday – Easter, Thursday Doors – Little Free Library
24 Seasons Syllabic Poetry Challenge, No. 28, 4/2/24, Part I, Clear and Bright (April 4 – 18) Seimei 清明. This week Colleen at Tanka Tuesday invites us to write a poem about our seasonal change. The kigo words are tulips and Easter and the poem form is Sijo with 9,7,9,7,9,5 = 46 syllables.

Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm is on 40 acres of farmland in Clackamas County, Oregon, at 33814 S Meridian Rd, Woodburn, OR 97071. The 2024 festival runs from March 22nd to May 5th, features over 120 tulip varieties. My daughter’s family invited us to visit the farm in 2023. Going to the Tulip Farm is her annual event. If the sky is clear, we could see Mt. Hood as the backdrop. My husband’s sister will visit us the last week of April and we’ll take her to view the incredible sight.

Last Sunday was Easter Sunday. We invited my daughter’s family over for a Sunday brunch and an Easter egg hunt for the grandkids in our new backyard.
Easter
Tulips display a rainbow’s delight,
Easter‘s promise, morn’s first light.
New dawn brings us hope for tomorrow
No more despair or sorrow
Children’s enthused egg hunt fills the air,
Joy beyond compare.

Thursday Doors – Little Free Library
This part of the post is for Dan Antion’s weekly challenge Thursday Doors. These are small doors to the biggest libraries with revolving books.
Little Free Library https://littlefreelibrary.org is a nonprofit organization based in St. Paul, Minnesota. Its mission is to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Library book-exchange boxes. It’s a free book-sharing box where anyone may take a book or share a book. They function in the honor system. You do not need to share a book to take one. If you take a book or two from a little library, try to bring some to share to that same library, or another in your area, when you can.
The slogan for the Little Free Library is “Take a book, Share a book.”
There are about 50 Little Free Libraries in the Portland area. When my daughter takes my granddaughters to go on a bike ride, the girls want to stop by all the libraries to find books. Very often, they sit right by the library box and read for a long time.
There was a Little Library box right by my old home in Orange County, California. I did a quick check on the map and found out there were about 50 little library boxes in my old neighborhood as well.
I think my next project is to create a Little Library and mark my box on the map through their website.
