Remembering Cee – 1Day4Cee
November 7 would have been Cee Neuner’s 65th birthday. Dan Antion at https://nofacilities.com/ and Marsha Ingrao at https://alwayswrite.blog/ share the same birthday in different years. They organized the One-Day One-Photo challenge to remember Cee.

Cee hosted many well loved challenges for almost 10 years. I participated in her Cee’s Share Your World, Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge, Cee’s Which Way Challenge (CWWC), which is now managed by Deb L Waters, Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge (CFFC), which is now managed by Dan Antion. I also posted a flower or two for her Flower of the Day (FOTD) challenge. In this post I included one photo in each challenge I participated, except CWWC, I included the St. Johns Bridge and the Alaska train. They were done in 2016 and 2017. I learned a lot from Cee of ways (fun ways) to approach photography.
Cee asked four questions in each Share Your World post. One question in my earliest post was:
Cee: Do you prefer long hair or short hair for yourself?
Me: I like long hair – about the length of hair I have in this picture. One time, my stylist cut my hair real short. I was upset for a long time, until my hair got longer.

My earliest Cee’s B&W Photo Challenge, I posted this cat found in my daughter’s neighborhood.

Dan mentioned that Cee loved bridges. My earliest Cee’s Which Way Challenge (CWWC), I posted the St. Johns Bridge in Portland and the train in Alaska.

.

This squirrel was in my first Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge (CFFC) post.

Last but not the least, for Cee’s Flower of the Day (FOTD).

A few years ago, her blog was approaching 1,000,000 hits. Her followers, including me, were excited and made a few more hits to speed up the incredible milestone. She went on to achieve 2,000,000 hits. Her latest record before she passed away had 2,354,196 hits. Cee was well loved and missed.

Miriam, this post was a great tribute to Cee, and I love how you noted her challenges and also her hits!
Also, this post reminded me of your beautiful photography and it was nice to see your photos for some of her challenges. Each photo had a nice stillness to it, the cat (with those triangle ears and nice value), the squirrel, with the cool fence in the back, adding interest to his side view and the bridge and train, were well-selected. Oh and I liked seeing you and the hubs for the hair photo.

Thank you for your lovely comment, Yvette! Cee was wonderful in prompting what to post for her challenges. I sure learned a lot from her of what to photograph and how to present it. That squirrel was a resident in my backyard of the California home. He was very comfortable there, but I think he stole the mourning doves’ first eggs. It was their first time building a nest in the tree, not knowing about the squirrel. Subsequently, they built the nest under the eaves.

I had intended to write about my trip from last year, but sad to say those posts are still in my drafts file. I did post about 2018 in Japan, but that is going back a while now. Hopefully, I can transcribe my journal from this trip.

Miriam, can I ask what would prevent you from going back to Japan?

Amanda, my family went to Hong Kong and Japan in 2019. My daughter and son-in-law had friends in Kyoto. Their friends came back to the US. So we don’t have friends in Japan to visit anymore. I would like to go back to visit Mt. Fuji but we still have other countries on our travel list. We probably only travel international every other year, the travel domestically the other year. After going to Italy in June this year, my husband didn’t want to do anymore international travel. Even if we go, it’s less likely we’d go back to Japan. When my sister and her late husband were in Cairo, I wanted to visit them, but my husband said it was just all dusty in Egypt, so we didn’t go. I can only go to places where he would go. I should have explained when I said I might not go back to Japan.

All good, Miriam. And I can relate as my husband would say something along the lines of your husband’s thoughts on Egypt. They would probably get along well together.
I am heading down south soon, one city he agreed to visit. That is unusual, so it is might be out last trip away together.
I also agree that visiting friends in different countries adds an enjoyable dimension to travel.
You see it from a citizen’s perspective and have the benefit of assisted logistics. All the while contributing to international relations!! Haha.

How lovely that you and Dan and Marsha celebrated Cee’s birthday and her love of photography. She was quite a powerhouse of inspiration and I know she’s missed. Wonderful photos and a beautiful tribute, Miriam. Hugs.

Thank you for your lovely comment, Diana! Marsha and Dan wanted to do it because they shared the same birthday. I truly miss Cee, so I joined them to pay tribute to her. I created my blog almost 15 years ago, but started actively blogging 10 years ago. I did the WP daily prompt, WP weekly photo challenge, and four out of five of Cee’s photo challenges. She sure was a powerhouse of inspiration to me. I’m grateful for her influence. I booked the flights to go to California for Thanksgiving with my husband’s family but there is a significant air traffic controller shortage caused by the recent government shutdown. I may have to cancel the trip because we don’t want to be stranded at the airport.

I’m so glad you joined in the tribute, Miriam. The shutdown seems to be ending, but it may take a little time to get airports going again. I hope you get to go. It’s a wonderful time to be with extended family. 🙂

Absolutely Cee is missed. I used to participate in her wordpress photo challenges – gosh over 10 years ago. Always fun and I met several keen bloggers that way.
Vale Cee.

Cee is missed by so many bloggers, Amanda! I read your post about Japan! I was in the middle of doing something so I didn’t respond. I’ll visit you again in the morning. Did you just come back from Japan? I went over to your blog a couple of times and didn’t see new posts until your latest one.

Such a beautiful way to honor a friend. She died far too young. So nice of you all to keep her alive in this way. Isn’t the blog community astounding?

She sure died too young, Ilsa. She had a disease for over 10 years, though. She started blogging when she couldn’t work. Her photo challenges are fun and popular. I think by now, all of her five challenges are managed by other bloggers and her legacy goes on. She’ll never be forgotten!

This is an absolutely lovely post, Miriam. I never knew Cee, or her blog, but I did see responses to her challenges on other blogs. She did bring out the best in people.
It’s all a bit dizzying, when a blog pal passes. Someone you communicated with for a few years, never met and then they are gone. Trent’s passing has me spinning.
Again, thank you for this wonderful post! Cee & Trent – 🕊💙🌹🕊💙🌹

Cee has been I’ll for almost 10 years. It was when she no longer could work that she started the blog. She could go out to take photos in the early years but needed help even getting in and out of the car.
Trent’s passing was a shock. My heart was down for days. The sense of how fragile life is has me spinning as well. I just had a conversation with him over at your blog. He passed away not long after that. I can’t imagine how frightening his wife was seeing him come home after running, sit down and never get up again. I know he was happy doing what he loved to do before he passed away.
Thank you for your coming over, Resa! I meant to visit you to talk about Trent. RIP, Cee and Trent. 💙💐🩵💐

Well, I didn’t know Cee, but it seemed she lived out her last years in a creative friendship with all of you in her blog world.
Yes, Trent, I’m still sick about it. We were emailing back and forth, working on a collaboration. Then suddenly the mails stopped.
Anyway, I turned our last unfinished colab into a tribute post for him. It’s up now.
Yes..RIP Trent & Cee!

That’s awful, Resa! You and Trent were emailing each other and it stopped suddenly. That was when he “dropped dead.” He was so young – 61 years old? He and his wife were married for 28 years (since 1997.09.15). I’ll come over to read your post tonight or tomorrow.

Exactly. It was strange, and I kept checking his blog, but there were no new posts.
We were looking at posting around the 16th Oct., so when he hadn’t gotten back to me by then,I got a sinking feeling. Then I googled Trent’s name, and an obit came up.
I left a message on his Legacy page. (link at bottom of tribute)There was only 1 other message, so I told a few people.
They left messages.
I knew it would take me a couple of weeks to pull the post together. Then I remembered he did that “Coffee Share” on Natalie the Explorer’s” blog, so I used her contact page to tell her, and left the Legacy link.
She posted the link in a few days, then word started to get around, and more messages went up on his board.
That made me feel better.
Anyway, I only knew him for just over a couple of years, but I will miss him!

You’ve done a lot to get the words out, Resa! When I left the message on his Legacy, there were quite a few people signed already. It meant a lot to his wife. He and I followed each other in June 2018. I can’t believe he’s gone. I’ll miss him. I’ll read your tribute to him.

A touching tribute to Cee, Miriam, and her wonderful contributions to the blogging and photography community. Your reflections and the shared stories highlight not only Cee’s talent and generosity, but also the joy and connection she fostered among so many. The WP community is special, and the way you honor her legacy through the One-Day One-Photo challenge by sharing personal experiences is heartfelt. It’s inspiring to think of the power of community, creativity, and gratitude. Wishing you well as the weather gets more winterlike 🥶😊.

Thank you, Randall! Cee’s Challenges are loved by many in the WP community. When she wanted to slow down, bloggers stepped up to carry on her legacy. She only kept one challenge to manage in her final months. She asked her partner to carry it on, but her partner was not as tech savvy and probably couldn’t navigate her blog. Her blog is now parked. How I wish to visit her blog one more time. She lived in Canby, an hour drive from me. I was going to visit her after we moved to Portland. I missed the chance to see her in person! It’s getting cold but it’s not freezing yet!!! 🙂

A beautiful story, and it is always a bit difficult when we wish we could have had just one more visit and talk… but the great thing about memories is they are always right there with us. I’m moved by the love so many have for Cee, and this post is a perfect example. Wishing you well!

Haha, the length of my hair! Thank you, Tim! I had so many hair stylists over the years. Two of them seemed to cut enough hair to worth the price I paid for. Then some were so afraid to cut even an inch.
