Welcome to Day 5 of the “SIR CHOC” Book Tour! Sir Chocolate Books – Sir Chocolate and the Sugar Crystal Caves story and cookbook

Giveaway:

(7) Paperback copies / 1 of each book in the series

(2) 15 Amazon gift cards

Please leave Robbie a comment anywhere along the tour for your chance to win one of these awesome prizes.

Sir Chocolate and the Sugar Crystal Caves story and cookbook introduces the Baked Alaska Dragon and the candy stripped Roc, two lonely creatures who live in the Chocolate Chip Hills on the other side of the Chocolate Mousse Swamp.

Readers also meet the fondant ghost and the marshmallow sheep. Something is making the Sugar Crystals in the cave melt and become soggy, and Sir Chocolate and Lady Sweet must find a way to solve the problem.

“Inside the great cavern,

you’ll see a wonderful sight,

spectacular sugar crystals,

sparkle in the dim light.”

This book is a little different as it does not include recipes but rather instructions on how to make sugar crystals and racing cars, windmills, and aeroplanes out of biscuits and other treats.

How to make a chocolate clown

You will need the following:

A six pack of Cadbury’s Sweetie Pies;

Six square tea biscuits;

Six wafer ice cream cones;

A selection of smarties; and

Royal icing.

Use royal icing to attach the flat bottom of the Sweetie Pies to the tea biscuits. Attach the ice cream cone to the top of the Sweetie Pie using royal icing to form the pointed hat. Attach the eyes and mouth chocolate buttons as per the picture above.

If you would like to be more adventurous, you can add chocolate buttons to the hat for decoration as well as a pom-pom made of a round chocolate sweet.

If you would like to make the bigger clown as per the picture below, you will need a medium sized chocolate Easter egg for the body, two long chocolate bars for the legs, two shorter chocolate bars for the arms, and a chocolate square for the feet. Use royal icing to attach all the body parts and sit the clown up against a cold glass until the icing sets. Decorate using chocolate buttons or other sweets of your choice.

BOOK BLURB:

Sir Chocolate and Lady Sweet get sugar water from the Sugar Crystal Caves to make delicious goodies for their shop. Unfortunately something is making the crystals melt. What can Sir Chocolate do? Includes four lovely new recipes.

(1) $10 Amazon gift card

So, You Need an Escape

            Right about now—ten long months into this pandemic, still not able to do much—could you use a getaway? The vaccine is coming to you and yours soon—we hope—but in the meantime could you use a getaway? Couldn’t you just picture yourself on an sun-drenched beach, toes in the warm sand and a frosty drink on your hand? Or maybe sailing across blue green waters, waves lapping peacefully at the sides of your sailboat with the shoreline around you exploding with color?

I’m right there with you.

That’s why, when I decided to write my new series,  the Haunted Shores Mysteries, I decided to set each story in a great getaway location. But not just any getaway. I mean, everyone knows about places like Hilton Head or Malibu or Daytona Beach. For my stories, I was searching for unique, unforgettable locations that I could introduce readers to, places that would leave a lasting impression.

Blood on the Chesapeake: A Cold Case Murder Mystery, A Ghost Story, A Dangerous Love (The Haunted Shores Mysteries Book 1) by [Randy Overbeck]

For me, my first choice was obvious since it’s been a favorite destination of ours for years. The setting for BLOOD ON THE CHESAPEAKE is, well, the Chesapeake Bay. Or to be more precise, the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, which I believe is one of the undiscovered gems in the country.  Thousands of miles of undulating shoreline, some of the best seafood you’ll ever eat, and sunsets over the water that would melt your sheltered, hardened heart. Not to mention the scene of variegated foliage covering she shores that can match even peak autumn in New Hampshire. If you close your eyes, you might be able to picture yourself in the middle of the Bay aboard a two-masted sailboat, rocking gently on the waters. Or you could just let my novel take you there.

Here’s a brief excerpt from BLOOD.

A few stray clouds chased each other across an azure sky which turned the water to an aquamarine. A light breeze filled the two white and gold sails and stirred the water, creating only small waves which rocked the sloop gently. Across the horizon, a few white sails punctured the beautiful blue that wrapped around them. Gusts of wind filled the two triangle sails and flapped the four-square Maryland flag at the rear. Along the rock-strewn shoreline, charming Cap Cods with Adirondack chairs in front competed with two-story Colonials wearing their white clapboard siding and green sloped roofs like their Sunday best.

Don’t you wish you were standing on the deck of that sailboat right now? Well, you can almost.

Crimson at Cape May (The Haunted Shores Mysteries Book 2) by [Randy Overbeck]

For the second entry in my series, I went for something quite different, but just as intriguing in its own way. CRIMSON AT CAPE MAY is set in a quintessential resort town, with expansive white sand beaches for the sun-worshipper, a famous getaway for more than 150 years. With over a hundred unique Victorian houses and mansions—think “the painted ladies”—lining the shore and filling the streets of this quant town and you have a setting and a sight unmatched anywhere in the U.S. And, the fact that the town is the most haunted seaport on the Eastern Seacoast made it a no-brainer for the setting for my second narrative.

A few pages into this novel and I promise you’ll forget the present doldrums of Covid-19 and find yourself in another place and time, one you’ll enjoy.

Here’s just a sample.

They crossed at the light, and Darrell took in the sight ahead of them—a near perfect, expansive sandy beach edged by crystal blue water that seemed to stretch on forever, merging with a perfect azure sky. Smudges of white dotted the heavenly canvas, and small curls of white-topped breakers were sprinkled along the waters farther out. Quiet waves gurgled up upon the sand before leaking back into the watery expanse. Throw in the meticulous architecture of all those Victorian mansions and B & B’s and you have resort few places could match.

Of course, my novels are far more than mere escape reads. Both include a cold-case murder mystery, a haunting ghost story and a bit of romance, all with some unforgettable characters.

Perhaps, one of the Amazon reviewers put it best:

“Was your vacation canceled this year? I know ours was put on the back burner, but I can recommend a great get-away that won’t cost much. Read the book Blood on the Chesapeake: A Cold Case Murder Mystery. It’s a vacation to a beautiful seashore with characters you’ll love and some you’ll hate. Of course, everyone wants a vacation with a happy ending, and I won’t spoil the book for you, but you’ll smile about the ending after you put it down.”—Tami A, an Amazon reviewer

I invited my guests to introduce themselves and their book to you.

We want to talk about our inspiration for writing.

The paradox about being a writer is that you must be a reader as well. Inspiration for Breakfield and Burkey comes from the daily consumption of written words for work and pleasure, as well as thoughts from other writers and podcasters.

Each of us receives a daily stream of material for blog posts, correspondence from colleagues, technical presentations from vendors, and books from other authors. We read, listen, and see a great deal of material during our work week. We use these three media types then aggregate the data onto the idea conveyor belt that feeds our imaginations. Current events from streaming media, voice actor audio reviews, reading reviews on our work, and non-technical publications discussing world economics or security are all excellent sources of ideas for our storylines.

Each of these informational feeds provides a level of research snippets into the real world. These are not like deep-dive research with cross-checking you might require for a historical novel, but they often capture our imaginations and drive us to research further. This is especially true with emerging technologies we are exposed to for solving our customers’ problems.

A perfect example of real-world input that impacts one of our novels was the buzz around cryptocurrencies, built on the underlying blockchain technology. This is a complex subject that is applied in multiple ways. However, we were interested in all the speculation of the various currencies, which made us do some more in-depth research into the history of it and how each operates.

As this was in progress, we started looking at the vulnerabilities blockchain has around cryptocurrency applications.  Finally, we explored how their adoption in different locations around the world would affect our global economy.  After we completed that research, we launched into the fictional aspects of what could happen when the cyber bad guys drive toward their specific agenda of power and greed.

We then took this research a step further to create an intriguing story of competing cryptocurrency providers. We introduced bad actors from the Darknet that had motives of corruption, power, greed, and control. Voilà, you have the concept of our TechnoThriller, story The Enigma Source.  See how easy that was? J

Admittedly cryptocurrency is an easy technology to find greed lurking nearby. Money and materialism tend to work together. The whole focus of artificial intelligence and machine learning captured our attention as more vendors were offering solutions with those technical capabilities at the foundation. The promise of we’ll do that for you sounds the alarm bells in our minds. The evolution of technology takes aspects and then builds upon them to be more and do more.

Machine learning is best accomplished with oodles of data to learn from. We have that in bulk with social media today. Think about the content of social media. If this is being used as the classroom for artificial intelligence, what is it learning? If the computer creators using these capabilities goals are misaligned to societal norms, then the end game could be unexpected.

We took this as the foundational basis for our newest story, The Enigma Threat. This book has cyber heroes battling cyber thugs from the Darknet, both with supercomputers as resources doing their bidding. It is a battle of wits from machines, some have guardrails, and some do not. You’ll need to read to learn all the details or listen as the ebook, paperback, and audible will be available on January 8th, 2021. We also have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help start work on a screenplay for this book. We invite you to check it out to support or share it with your friends. The campaign has additional information about the story and a book trailer you might enjoy.

Make no mistake, we are inspired by the world around us and the technology we use to live, work and play.

How to make Chelsea buns

Ingredients – dough

500 grams white cake flour

1 teaspoon salt

7 grams fast-action dried yeast

300 ml milk

40 grams softened butter

1 beaten egg

Ingredients – filling

25 grams melted salted butter

75 grams brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon mixed spice

150 grams dried mixed fruit

Ingredients – icing

150 ml water

150 ml icing sugar

Method

Melt the milk and butter in a saucepan, set aside to cool down to lukewarm. Sift together the salt and the cake flour in a bowl. Make a well in the center and add the yeast. Pour the milk mixture and the beaten egg into the flour mixture and mix until they come together into a soft dough. Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for at least five minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic and no longer sticky.

5

Rub the bowl with a little vegetable oil and place the dough in the bowl. Turn it until it is completely covered with oil. Cover the bowl with cling film and set aside in a warm place for one hour until the dough has doubled in size.

6

Spray your baking tins with non-stick spray or grease with hard margarine. Melt the butter and mix the brown sugar and the spice in a small bowl.

Knock back the risen dough to its original size and turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll the dough into a rectangle of 50 mm thickness. Brush the rectangle with the melted butter and sprinkle with the sugar mix and then the dried fruit.

7

Roll the rectangle up into a long cylinder and cut into slices of about 5 cm thick. Place the slices on the baking tray, leaving a space between them. Cover with a tea towel and leave in a warm place to rise for a further 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 190 degrees Celsius or 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the buns for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.

Sieve the icing sugar and mix with the water until it forms a thick paste. Drop a spoonful of the icing onto the cool buns and spread with a butter-knife.

AUTHOR BIO:

Hello, my name is Robbie, short for Roberta. I am an author with seven published children’s picture books in the Sir Chocolate books series for children aged 2 to 9 years old (co-authored with my son, Michael Cheadle), one published middle grade book in the Silly Willy series and one published preteen/young adult fictionalized biography about my mother’s life as a young girl growing up in an English town in Suffolk during World War II called While the Bombs Fell (co-authored with my mother, Elsie Hancy Eaton). All of my children’s book are written under Robbie Cheadle and are published by TSL Publications.

I also have a book of poetry called Open a new door, with fellow South African poet, Kim Blades.

I have recently branched into adult and young adult horror and supernatural writing and, in order to clearly differential my children’s books from my adult writing, I plan to publish these books under Roberta Eaton Cheadle. My first supernatural book published in that name, Through the Nethergate, is now available.

I have participated in a number of anthologies:

  • Two short stories in #1 Amazon bestselling anthology, Dark Visions, a collection of horror stories edited by Dan Alatorre under Robbie Cheadle;
  • Three short stories in Death Among Us, an anthology of murder mystery stories, edited by Stephen Bentley under Robbie Cheadle;
  • Three short stories in #1 Amazon bestselling anthology, Nightmareland, a collection of horror stories edited by Dan Alatorre under Robbie Cheadle; and
  • Two short stories in Whispers of the Past, an anthology of paranormal stories, edited by Kaye Lynne Booth under Roberta Eaton Cheadle.
