March 15: Flash Fiction Challenge

Charli at Carrot Ranch Flash Fiction: March 16, 2018, prompt – In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story about carrot cake. It can be classic or unusual. Why is there cake? How does it feature in the story? Go where the prompt leads.

My husband loves carrot cake. He tries to reduce his sugar intake and he thinks that carrot cake is unlike any other sugary cakes.

Here comes my story:

Carrot CAKE

“What do you want for dessert, Mimi? Do you like carrot cake?”

“Noop! When I want to have dessert, I have dessert.”

“When do you mean? Carrot cake is dessert!”

“See, Nancy. My mom grows carrots. When she makes carrot cake, she is very generous to put triple portions of grated carrots into the cake mix. The cake tastes just like carrots, you know! When I eat cake, I eat cake. When I eat carrots, I eat carrots. I just don’t eat carrot cake.”

“Oh, no wonder, Mimi! Here, try my carrot CAKE that doesn’t have the carrot taste!”

#NaNoWriMo 2017

Hi, my dear friends,

I just want to let you know that I participate in the National Novel Writing Month, 2017. #NaNoWriMo 2017. I have been doing fine so far. The goal is to write 50,000 words by November 30, at 11:59 p.m. The goal for each day is to write 1,725 words.

As you can see, I’ll move my writing hands and fingers as fast as I can every day this month. In addition to that, I’m spending one more week here in Portland, Oregon helping to take care of my granddaughter. I’ll be hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year.

My posting schedule for this month will be a little irregular!

Wish me the best!

100 WW: Week 19 – Expectation

Where is he? We are supposed to meet at six this evening.

I went to his nephew’s birthday party at his house last night. His mom was there. His five siblings, spouses, and their kids; aunts, uncles and friends were all over the house.

They were laughing and talking with each other. I was the only stranger. No one came to talk to me. I didn’t know how to break the ice.

My family has mom, pop, little brother and I. How should I have mingled with large family?

I want to talk about what his family expects of me!

I still remember the day I came home from the war. Being in the Navy for five years, there was no day that I didn’t think of my Mama and my darling Elsie. I looked at their pictures every time I got a moment, kissing them a thousand times. Never knew if I could make it home to see them again!

The Almighty is good. The war ended, and we came back to California. Mama and Elsie were waiting for me on this dock. I couldn’t run fast enough to hold them.

That was the best day in my life!

“It’s good! The wait wasn’t too long.”

“Yes, we got here in time to beat the crowd. The after work traffic is getting worse. Every minute counts, especially on Fridays.”

“I had a hectic week at work. Thank God the weekend is here!”

“I look forward to the weekend too.”

“I like the way you set your hair, now I can see more of your beautiful face!”

“Oh, thanks, just wanted to try something different! Did you notice that gentleman there? He used to come with his wife! He is here alone. I wonder what happened to his wife!”

Fourteen and Under

Fishing week 13

“Hey, Sis, got anything?”

“No! Not yet. The water is quiet. You can hear a pin drop.”

“Don’t worry, we got all day.”

“I know. How about you? Got anything?”

“Not yet! I’m glad Dad found this lake for us to hang out. We almost have the whole lake to ourselves. No big guys come here!”

“Yah, that’s the good thing. Big guys have all the fishing gadgets. I feel stupid with my small fishing rod next to them.”

“There is a fishing contest next month for us under fourteen years old.”

“Oh, I want to do it, will you?”
