Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #91: Simplicity

Patti Moed invited us to focus on the theme Simplicity this week as the Coronavirus pandemic spreads and intensifies, many of us around the world are spending a lot of time at home, following governmental regulations to shelter in place.

As of April 6, 2020, California has 15,221 cases reported and 351 deaths, according to a New York Times database. The government issued the rules of wearing masks outdoor and when shopping.

We have tried our best to stay home and keep things simple. We set up a home gym with workout bench, dumbbells, and treadmill. Hubby has a manikin to practice boxing. He runs in a nearby park. I walk around a nearby lake or in the neighborhood.

2. morning walk

We eat simple food with eggs, avocados, tomatoes, and fruits for breakfast, vegetables and alternate chicken and salmon for dinner. The shopping list is simple, so Hubby only goes once a week for a quick run. I rarely go to the stores.

3. breakfast

To increase physical activity, I do more gardening when weather is clear. I planted some seeds for gladiolus several years ago. They multiplied, and some flowers grew under a grapevine last year, not getting enough space and sunlight to grow. I dug them up last week and transplanted to another area to grow better.

My daughter has a Tinybeans.com account where she posts photos of her kids and family activities. I checked the account every day to look at the photos and videos. They give me much joy and I look forward to them every day. The daycare is closed, so Autumn stays home. She plays in the backyard, rides her balance bike or skateboard in the nearby park or on the street.

Stay safe and please share with me in the comment how you maintain simplicity yet keep your life interesting.

SoCS 2019.10.05 – Healthy Taste

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “-tast-.” Find a word that contains “tast” and use it in your post. Enjoy!Linda G. Hill

For health reason, Hubby and I are on a low carbohydrate but tasty, healthy and balanced diet. When he retired in 2016, he said, “You have been cooking for me for twenty years. From now on, I’ll do all the cooking.” He has kept his words literally. We eat two meals a day. He makes a tasty and colorful brunch with eggs, fruit and vegetable. For dinner, he makes tasty salmon and different vegetables. Once in a while, he makes thin crust pizza and continues to improve on his secret recipe. Two or three times a year, we have barbecues with lean meat.

For dining out, I usually have seafood and he has steak. Basically, we stay away from fat and starchy food.

Spring Brunch

Our church fellowship has an annual auction fundraising event for the missionaries. There are open auction and the silent auction. Members of the group donate goods or activities for auction. We then bid on the items and all proceeds go to the missionaries.

My husband and I donated a steak dinner event, and the bid went up to $400 from two couples. A friend and I sponsored a silent auction of brunch for 12 ladies with $25 each. There were more ladies who wanted to sign up, but it quickly filled all the spots.

We signed up for five silent auction events and bid for two open auctions. One of the silent auction I got was a Spring Brunch held last Saturday. The hostess decorated her home with Paris theme. The co-hostesses did a fabulous job to make the event memorable. The food was delicious and beautiful. Being with this almost 30 years of long-time friends is always a delight and enjoyable.

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #8: Colorful

End of Summer Party!

Our weekly women’s group has the summer off, but we had fabulous summer breakfast gathering four times. I couldn’t go to the previous three events because I went to see my granddaughter once a month. I was glad to join the lovely ladies two Saturdays ago. The hostess did a marvelous job of decorating the tables with colorful table clothes, matching napkins and centerpieces. The vases for the centerpieces were made with fresh lemon peels (scooped out the pulp and juice).

The food was also colorful with quiche, mixed berries, slices of bacon, toast and other items I didn’t have on my plate. I had coffee and orange juice for the drink. We had a good time catching up with each others of our summer travels and news. Most of these friends have been together for more than thirty years!

In the courtyard, the hostess has a wooden bench. The back of the bench is a one-piece carving of a colorful fruit basket.

Nothing gives us a happier memory than having a photo taken with lovely smiles on these ladies in colorful fashion.

Happy End of Summer, my friend around the world!

#Blue Sky Tag – Time for a little fun and distraction…#TGIF

I have not played any tag since January 2018. Sally G. Cronin at Smorgasbord – Variety is the spice of life tagged me with the Blue Sky Tag created by Rachael Ritchey

This tag sounds a lot of fun and here are a few rules to make sure the game is passed on smoothly, but these are easy to remember as they all revolve around the number 11.

11 tags, 11 answers, 11 questions

Use the Blue Sky banner

It is sort of polite to mention the person who tagged you

You need to answer the 11 questions set by your tagger

You will need to make up 11 original and interesting or funny questions for those you tag.

You need to tag 11 people

Here are the eleven questions from Sally…♥♥♥

  1. What was the name of your first pet and what did you love most about them? (if you have not had a pet, substitute, boyfriend, girlfriend, or film star!)

I didn’t have pets, so I go with my girlfriend. The name of my childhood girlfriend is Shirley. She is my fifth-grade music teacher’s daughter. I love music and visited her often in fifth and sixth grades. I love listening to her playing the piano. We’ve kept our friendship throughout the years. I got to visit her and her husband when my husband and I traveled to London. They took us sightseeing for five days.

  1. If you could meet anyone from history, who would you meet and why?

I would like to meet President Abraham Lincoln because I admired his desire to learn credited to his mother and stepmother. Even though schools were not available, he managed to study law, became an attorney, congressman, and President of the United States. He was the only President who has a patent for his invention.

  1. What are the most common misconception people have about you?

This is a good one, people usually think of my age a lot younger than I am. Overall, people look younger these days, so the number doesn’t really matter.

  1. If you could buy any car in the world what would it be and why?

When I bought my current car which is an Acura, I made a spreadsheet listing all the features I wanted for a new car. I compared the prices among Audi, Lexus, Infinity, and Acura. They all have the features I wanted, but Acura was less expensive. I’m practical. I want a reliable car, not something that impresses somebody. My next car would have a navigator and a rear mirror that shows how far I back up the car.

  1. Do you have a hobby your friends don’t know about?

I play computer scribble (against a computer player). My husband and my daughter know about it, but it didn’t come up in the conversation with my friends, so they don’t know about it.

  1. What was the last movie you saw at the cinema?

Oh, it was the Metropolitan Opera – Live HD Encore of Puccini’s La Bohème.

  1. Describe your perfect day

Have morning coffee in my garden and no appointments for the day. Better yet, visit my daughter in Portland, Oregon and spend the whole day babysitting my 10 months old granddaughter.

  1. Summer or winter?

Winter, because it rains, we need rain storm. Our winter is short so it won’t get too cold.

  1. Looks or Personality?

Personality. The look won’t last for too long. ♥♥♥

  1. City or countryside?

I’ve lived in different cities my whole life. I don’t know what it is like living in the countryside.

  1. Action or comedy?

Comedy with the replay of my favorite comedian.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Good Shape

My husband and I spent last week with Mercy, Will, and Autumn. On Saturday, February 17, we went hiking in Silver Falls State Park, Oregon. One area is the Trail of Ten Falls which is a 7-mile loop. This loop is a moderately difficult hike with unpaved trails, some muddy areas, steep sections and an overall elevation change of 800 feet.

The photos included in this post are two Falls. South Fall is a 177 feet waterfall where we could walk behind the Fall underneath a rocky canyon. The Lower South Fall is 93 feet, descending from South Fall with stairs. Walking behind the South Fall reminded me of walking behind the Niagara Fall years ago!

It was a heavy rainy day and we all were soaking wet. The three of them wore hiking boots, so it was easier to walk in the muddy area. I was not prepared to go hiking, and I wore regular running shoes. My shoes were wet and muddy and my toes were almost frozen.

We were in good shapes and found no difficulty with the hike. Mercy gave birth to Autumn four and a half months ago. She has a remarkably fast recovery from the pregnancy and birth.

I was impressed with the spectacular views of the Falls and the mossy forest.

Dessert for Breakfast

We get together with friends and have dinner or potluck at each other’s homes for many years. Many wives and some husbands know that I drink hot water instead of coffee for dinner. I can’t have dessert after a certain hour either. Caffeine and sweet simply keep me awake for hours at night. My friends take me seriously when I say I could eat dessert for breakfast. That’s the time I could eat sweet without affecting my sleep.

I went to a breakfast party lately. The hostess served me hot water instead of coffee. She knows I drink hot water, not coffee for dinner. Perhaps I failed to tell her that I could drink coffee for breakfast.

It was a beautiful morning. I enjoyed this delightful breakfast with my coffee and dessert.
