Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #9: Action

Action in the air, on the ridge of the high mountains, and in the depth of the ocean – a conservative description of my husband.

My husband is adventurous. He is a helicopter pilot. He keeps his pilot license active but doesn’t fly anymore because the air traffic in southern California is too busy. When he flew, he had a close call experience with a police helicopter. Helicopters are not within the control of Air Traffic Control and pilots must use their judgments.

My hubby rode dirt bikes, but he quit before he got married because I worried to death about his safety. He broke his wrist and ankle three weeks before our wedding. Walking down the aisle with a crutch was the decision, that’s part of life.

He is a diver. Diving was something he continued to do until the Key West trip in 2011. He dived in Aruba, Australia, Maui in Hawaii several times, North Carolina, southern California, and Key West in Florida.

Diving is not my cup of tea, so when we were in Maui, we went jet skiing and kayaking. On all the other diving trips, I stayed in the boats. We saw dolphins on several trips. He swam with the dolphins a couple times. The deepest dive he had was a wreck diving at North Carolina. The guys went 120 feet deep. One guy stayed in the deep water for too long. When he came up to the surface, he had to decompress before getting out of the water.

The thrill of diving slows down and he doesn’t have the urge to do it anymore. Travel on land tour is what we do in the last several years.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Family Time Treat

My granddaughter Autumn is nine and a half months old. It is always a treat to visit Mercy, Will, and Autumn. I’m so blessed with the opportunity to visit them once a month so far. Autumn is growing fast and learning new things every day. During my visit from June 26 to July 3, 2018, I watched her eating peanut butter and jelly sandwich by herself. She is a good eater – eats everything given to her. She also started cruising. She took twenty steps on the second day of cruising.

Mercy, Autumn, and I went to a park and had a picnic lunch with Mercy’s friend who just had a six weeks old baby. Autumn had fun on the swing.

We also went to a small rose garden and Battle Ground Lake State Park. It was a fun-filled week for me.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden

My husband and I spent Mother’s Day weekend with Mercy, Will, and Autumn. Autumn is now seven and a half months old. She started crawling fast on Mother’s Day. What a joyful Mother’s Day gift she gave to her mom. She also learned to clap her hands and feet. Yes, she curls up her legs and claps her feet. She pinches something smaller than a piece of rice with her index finger and thumb. I was impressed with her fine motor dexterity.

We arrived Portland on Wednesday. Mercy took us to different gardens on Thursday and Friday.

For this post, I include several photos of Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden. It is a botanical garden located near Reed College in southeastern Portland, Oregon. The garden covers 9.49 acres (3.84 ha), is named for the numerous springs within the garden. Crystal Springs Garden features more than 2,500 rhododendrons, azaleas, and other plants in small lakes, fountain, and small waterfalls.

Many kinds of ducks, birds, and geese are residents in the Garden. My favorite is Wood Duck. This time of the year, Canada Geese have a whole bunch of offspring. It was fun watching the goslings running around eating seeds.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Family Story

Our granddaughter Autumn is five and a half months old already. Even though we are 1,000 miles apart, we try to make frequent visits to watch her growth. Mercy and Will are grateful that they have a healthy and happy baby. It puts a big smile on my face every time I look at her smiling face. I’ll see her next Friday. I can hardly wait!

Weekly Photo Challenge-Sweer and Sweet

I have someone who likes sweet. I also have someone who is sweet. Let me explain.

My husband likes sweet because he has sweet tooth. He likes donuts. The biggest donut he has had was voodoo donut which is bigger than his face. He had it in Portland, OR. He also loves dark chocolate. On Valentine’s Day many years ago, I bought him a 2-pound dark chocolate covered nuts. He finished them in two days. I think eventually he had a problem with his skin. I still buy him dark chocolate candy for Valentine’s Day, but I only buy 1/4 pound. He eats dark chocolate every day. The kind he eats is the 85% cocoa. When we visit Mercy, Will, and Autumn. Lynton brings his dark chocolate so that his daily consumption won’t be interrupted.

I also have someone who is sweet. She is my granddaughter Autumn. She has a sweet personality. She rarely cries except when she is extremely tired or hungry. If we feed her timely and sooth her to sleep, we seldom hear her cry.
