Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge – June 2, 2017

We went on a half day trip to Laguna Beach, CA the day before Memorial Day last week. It was a pleasant day with mild sun and light breeze. We usually walked on the sand and watched the tide pool. When the tide is low, we could see a lot of tiny crabs and other creatures. This day we didn’t walk too far because I had a minor treatment on one toe. It was little bit hard walking. We had fun watching the birds, and the birds are under protection.

I was glad we could get away for half a day.

Alcatraz Island, San Francisco

alcatraz

I went to San Francisco for a meeting in 2006. Some friends took me around for some sightseeing. I had been to San Francisco many time, but went to different tourist areas. This day I was walking on the shore and taking the photos of this famous Alcatraz Island. A bird flew in front of me, and I took this timely shot.

The Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary or United States Penitentiary, Alcatraz Island (often just referred to as Alcatraz) was a maximum high-security federal prison on Alcatraz Island, 1.25 miles (2.01 km) off the coast of San Francisco, California, which operated from 1934 to 1963.

The main prison building was built in 1910–1912 the island became a prison of the Federal Bureau of Prison in August 1934 after the buildings were modernized to meet the requirements of a top-notch security prison. Given this high security and the location of Alcatraz in the cold waters and strong currents of San Francisco Bay, the prison operators believed Alcatraz to be escape-proof and America’s strongest prison.

Today the penitentiary is a public museum and one of San Francisco’s major tourist attractions.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Atop Views above the Clouds

IMG_0380

When I fly on a plane, I like the window seat. It allows me to take photos of the views from the airplane, especially when the plane is above the clouds.

So often what I gaze toward the sky from the ground, I just see clouds, especially on a dark and heavy rainy day. Without the energy from the sun, I’m less motivated to get going. There were moments in my life; all I saw was dark and heavy clouds. I yearn for sunshine and blue sky to make my heart lighter, my spirit higher, and my steps swifter. Where was the sun?

When the plane flies above the clouds, right in my sight, the clear blue sky and the bright sun. They are there all the time, whether I see them from the ground or not. Of course I can’t see through the clouds, just knowing that they are always there give me encouragement. The clouds eventually will go away and the sun will shine upon my face once more.

We took this trip coming from home of southern California to Portland, Oregon; to visit our daughter and son-in-law. I got the window seat and took photos from above the clouds. I took a few photos as we approached Portland – one above the clouds with clear blue sky, one above Portland, and one above Columbia River by the airport. I inserted a photo of the sun above the clouds from our trip to Key West .

We came from California to Oregon to visit our daughter today. I took the photos at the airport in Ontario, California. We landed safely, and took the Portland Max Train to our daughter’s home. It has been raining off and on since we arrived.
