Discover Prompts, Day 14: Book

Ben Huberman at  Discover, WordPress posts a Daily Prompt throughout April. The prompt on day 14 is Book. He invited us to post something about a book.

My daughter and son-in-law read to their first baby, Autumn from day one of her life. No wonder her natural love about everything is reading a book. She loves to be read to and also loves to read by herself. My daughter has a website where she posts daily of Autumn’s photos. I picked several photos from December 2018 to April 2020 to show that she got caught in reading. She used to pick one book at a time and brought it to us to read to her. When I visited her in February, she wanted to bring six books to the couch for me to read. The bottom book did not quite align with the top five but she didn’t want to drop it. After several tries, she picked up all six books to bring to me so she would listen to them without interruption.

Value of Property or People

“We got a good deal on our 10 acres, honey.”

“First time hearing of Sequim in Washington Peninsula.”

“Many retirees here.”

“See the logging. The previous owner made a fortune.”

“We need to dig a well and have electricity connected.”

“What was the noise last night?”

“Humm… a bear visitor.”

“Wait, we park next to a beehive.”

“Get in, I’ll move the camper… Isn’t this a peaceful place for retirement?”

“What? No way. Making new friends after retirement and the neighbor is 10 acres away?”

“What do you want to do?”

“Divide the land into 4 pieces and sell.”

Colleen’s Weekly #Poetry Challenge No. 51: GIFT & SONG

My daughter Mercy’s baby is arriving any minutes by now. I still remember back in March when we skyped and talked with each other. Mercy and Will showed us the ultrasound film. We made a virtual hug at the end. The joy of parenthood, the wonder of bringing a new life into this word were so overwhelmed. Mercy has been excited and celebrated the process by capturing the moments in photos. The family and community are so enthusiastic and supportive. This gives them a firm assurance and confidence.

It Takes A Village

karen 2

My group of ladies is specialized in one thing – showering our daughters and daughters-in-law with love and blessings. We do that consistently to each other’s girls.

We give bridal showers to bless the marriages of the brides and grooms. The bridal shower gifts are enough to help the new couples to start the new homes with bedding linens, bathroom items, kitchen pots and pans, utensils and more.

When these princesses are expecting their babies, we give them baby showers – showering the new parents with warm wishes, cute baby gifts to support their new parenthood.

Even though my daughter lives 1000 miles away, and her baby shower is in Portland, Oregon. This group of ladies shows their love and support by contributing a sum of money to get several large items of baby gifts for my daughter.

This afternoon I went to a bridal shower for the daughter of a lady in this group. The party was elaborate with beautiful decoration and delicious food, sandwiches, scones, different kinds of tea and dessert. The gifts were generous. We enjoyed so much sharing the happiness of the bride-to-be. The groom-to-be showed up at the end, helping to carry the gifts home. We had a chance to congratulate him.

We will continue this tradition. It takes a village to support a child and the child’s child!

Weekly Photo Challenge – Repurposed Life Value

When I worked, I worked very hard. I dedicated all of my energy and my creativity to produce the best results possible. Looking back, I’m thankful for all of my achievements in my working life. My purpose was to serve the community well.

work-3work-2work-1

Now that I am retired, I repurpose my life and reallocate my time and energy. My pace is slowed down to smell the flowers, or watch the ducks swimming during our walk. My new learning is for fun while keeping my mind being active. Learning new skills in fine arts and be involved in music delight me as much as my accomplishments at work. I am content with my active retirement life.
