Lens-Artists Weekly Photo Challenge #108: Sanctuary

Xenia at Tranature is the guest host for Lens-Artists Weekly Photo Challenge this week. She invited us to look at the theme of Sanctuary.

We have been in lock down because of Covid-19 since March 11. The initial projection was to close schools and stores for several weeks. Five months have gone by, we see new surge of cases in many countries. This is an unsettling time of the history.

Xenia’s theme is timely for us to think about and find sanctuary among the chaos.

Sanctuary is the tranquility where the mind and soul find serenity and peace. It could be in the ocean, a park, or your garden.

It seems to be miles away but Laguna Lake is in the midst of the residential homes.

My garden

Sanctuary is the harmony where the chaos, strife, and discords dissipate. It could be somewhere in the forest or the perception through our filtered lenses.

Trees find their way toward the sun at Laguna Lake.

Sanctuary is the quietness where the demands, interruption, and disturbance fade away. It could be a bench under a tree or in the depth of your heart.

Benches like this one are facing the water around Laguna Lake.

Sanctuary is a resting place where the struggles, conflicts, and confusion subside. A nap can be a pleasant luxury, a mini-vacation. It can provide an easy way to get some relaxation and rejuvenation.

Tucking the head under the wings is a perfect way of napping for the ducks.

Sanctuary is a hobby you emerge yourself in for leisure and pleasure. You may find it in reading, hiking, or fishing. I find mine in singing and painting.

Sanctuary is a haven where one finds security, love, and care for the young.

Lens-Artists Challenge #36 – Around the Neighborhood

Tina’s theme for Lens-Artists Challenge #36 is: Around the Neighborhood

Laguna Lake is within walking distance in our neighborhood. The word Laguna means lake in Spanish, so that makes “Laguna Lake” redundant, but it is known as Laguna Lake for many years. It’s about half a mile from our home on a hilly area. We sometimes walked up the hill to the lake and sometimes drove there if we started late in the afternoon. It’s 0.77 miles around the lake. My husband likes to run around the lake three times while I walk one or two times depending on how often I stop to take photos. The lake area is part of the cycling and horse trail that extends to different part of the city.

Fourteen and Under

Fishing week 13

“Hey, Sis, got anything?”

“No! Not yet. The water is quiet. You can hear a pin drop.”

“Don’t worry, we got all day.”

“I know. How about you? Got anything?”

“Not yet! I’m glad Dad found this lake for us to hang out. We almost have the whole lake to ourselves. No big guys come here!”

“Yah, that’s the good thing. Big guys have all the fishing gadgets. I feel stupid with my small fishing rod next to them.”

“There is a fishing contest next month for us under fourteen years old.”

“Oh, I want to do it, will you?”

Tuesday Travel – Florida

Key West, Florida is the southernmost point in the continent of USA. We had a chance to visit and it turned out to be a trip that enhanced our knowledge and insight.

This is the picture of Ernest Hemingway’s fishing boat named Pilar. Hemingway regularly fished off the boat in the waters of Key West, Florida. Several of Hemingway’s books were influenced by time spent on the boat, most notably, The Old Man and the Sea and Islands in the Stream.

The winter White House of President Harry S. Truman. It was his white house away from the White House. Today it is a public Key West museum.

Successful fishing trip! Many birds around were waiting for the scraps from cleaning the fish.

Roosters were roaming on the walls and sidewalks. Iguanas and human shared the same right crossing the street.

My husband stood in front the Tower Cam and called his friend in California. His friend logged on the website, saw him on live-camera and conversed on the phone!

Pass Time

fishing

Blue lake filled with fish, ducks, and creatures.

Adults and kids gather together.

Pouches full of gears,

Wires, hooks, and rods.

Swirling the rhythmic swing,

Into the water they Plop.

Then wait, wait, wait.

Catching fish or not,

It doesn’t seem to matter.

What a peaceful pastime,

Soak in the fresh air, rest and ponder.
