Meet Sue and Join The Sue Vincent Rodeo Classic

I’m happy to announce an exciting event in this blogging family. We gather around to cheer and support one of our own – Sue Vincent.

Sue is living in the south of England. She is a poet, a commissioned painter, an accomplished writer, and a director of the Silent Eye, a modern mystery School. She is a supper-supportive blogger at Sue Vincent’s Daily Echo where she hosts the weekly #WritePhoto challenge and posts all the works from the participants, and writes #Midnighthaiku. She invites bloggers to guest post on her “Be My Guest.” Click any link to find more about Sue or participate in her #WritePhoto at https://scvincent.com/2021/01/28/thursday-photo-prompt-guarded-writephoto, or read her #midnighthaiku at https://scvincent.com/2021/01/29/gifts-midnighthaiku-5.

I love landscape painting and chose this as Sue’s sample paintings.

Sue has been a caretaker of her son for 11+ years since he suffered from the traumatized attack. Besides the challenge, she was diagnosed with lung cancer. This is the time she would appreciate the support when she can’t run full speed because of the side effect and the exhaustion from the treatment, plus the impact from the Covid pandemic.

Carrot Rach has created a Rodeo Classic to orchestrate the support event. It calls for a 99-words flash fiction contest. To take part, you write a flash fiction story of 99 words or a poem of 99 syllables, using the photo prompt at Carrot Ranch to find the “Hidden” Inspiration, and enter the contest using a form on the post, then you’d be invited take part in a small donation to support Sue.

“Each story needs to have a beginning, middle and end. Poems must have distinctive theme, movement, and rhythm; no rhyme scheme is necessary, but neither will rhyme be punished…” – H.R.R.

There is a $100 grand prize and five runners up will each receive one paperback from Sue’s collection of published books (those who live in a region where the paperback is unavailable may receive an e-Book instead).

The contest will close at midnight on Friday, February 19, 2021. Winning entries will be announced and read at CarrotRanch.com/blog on March 22, 2021.

I hope you would participate and enjoy the fun!

Spring Brunch

Our church fellowship has an annual auction fundraising event for the missionaries. There are open auction and the silent auction. Members of the group donate goods or activities for auction. We then bid on the items and all proceeds go to the missionaries.

My husband and I donated a steak dinner event, and the bid went up to $400 from two couples. A friend and I sponsored a silent auction of brunch for 12 ladies with $25 each. There were more ladies who wanted to sign up, but it quickly filled all the spots.

We signed up for five silent auction events and bid for two open auctions. One of the silent auction I got was a Spring Brunch held last Saturday. The hostess decorated her home with Paris theme. The co-hostesses did a fabulous job to make the event memorable. The food was delicious and beautiful. Being with this almost 30 years of long-time friends is always a delight and enjoyable.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “which/witch/wich.” Start your post with the word “which” and try to fit the word “witch” in somewhere if you can. – Linda G Hill

Which auction items do I want to purchase tonight?” I wondered. It was our church fellowship group annual fundraising for the missionaries this evening.

The program included the silent auction and verbal auction. The silent auction was done half an hour before the verbal auction. Dinner was served during the verbal auction. The main dish for the dinner was bratwurst sausage sandwich, mashed potatoes, and coleslaw.

There were about 40 silent auction items and 22 for the verbal auction. The silent auction included some items people donated and some breakfasts, lunches, dinners, or game nights people sponsored. I had the calendar open on my phone ready to check on the dates.

When the Master of Ceremony announced the time to start the silent auction. I was fortunate to be standing by some activities sheet, so I quickly signed up for five, three for women (myself), one for both my husband and I, and one for men (my husband). During the verbal auction, I bid on two items and won both.

It was another pleasant night out for my husband and I. We enjoyed it as well as love to support the missionaries.

Glitz Event

Our church adult fellowship has an annual auction fundraising event. Funds collected are used for the fellowship sponsored missionaries as Christmas gifts. We named the event Glitz. The idea is to create a glitzy atmosphere. The attendees feel they are so blessed and are generous to give.

Members of the group sign up to decorate the tables using their best China. Some gentlemen put on their tuxes, and ladies have a chance to show off their fashions. The auction items are donated by the group members and are auctioned off to the members. Examples of donated items are “3-day stay at a beachside condo,” or “dinner with the host at a known restaurant.” The event is a fun event of the year. The slogan is “It’s all for the missionaries!” (I decorated the first table!)
