Commitment Alters Your Destiny

In my previous post “A Tribute to My Dad,” I wrote about how he influenced me on the importance of education. Another major influence came from my childhood hero, President Abraham Lincoln, and how he eagerly learned as a child. Both parents of little Abe were illiterate. His mother, Nancy believed in the importance of education. Schools were uncommon in the lightly populated areas. When Abe was about seven, a school opened nine miles away. His mother insisted to Abe’s father, Tom that children ought to be allowed to attend. Nancy walked the two children, Abe and his sister to school, 2.5 – 3 hours each way. It was a major commitment. The school didn’t last long, however the importance of education was impressed upon Abe’s mind.

The rest of Abe’s childhood and young adult story continued to impress me how persistent he was in his pursue of education and law in particular. He became the sixteenth President of U.S.A.

His humble childhood, his love and commitment in education resulting in his presidency were motivational and inspirational to me. I have been a lifelong learner because of the influence of my Dad and my heroes.

Your Own Higher Ground

Live in a world of competition

Friends or Foes full of ambition

Set eyes on them causes intimidation

Try to measure up may have limitation

Turn your eyes inward to find your passion

Turn your eyes upward to seek inspiration

Knowing there is only one of you in the whole creation

No one is like you, so create your specialization

With His blessings, target a higher ground with your own expectation

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Broken Highway at Key West

KeyWest HarborKey West southernmost point

Key West, Florida is the southernmost point in the continent of USA.  It’s one of the best places to watch sunset. Key West is humid. The fog came in at nightfall.

The second day of the trip, we drove up and down the Highway to visit other Keys. Apparently, part of the Highway was broken. Instead of repairing, a new section of the Highway was built, parallel to the broken section. The two ends of the new were connected to the original Highway. The broken section was left alone.

We went to the Ernest Hemingway House, I took a photo of the picture of his fishing boat named Pilar. Hemingway regularly fished off the boat in the waters of Key West, Florida. Several of Hemingway’s books were influenced by time spent on the boat, most notably, The Old Man and the Sea and Islands in the Stream.

The winter White House of President Harry S. Truman was his white house away from the White House. Today it is a public Key West museum.

Successful fishing trip! Many birds around were waiting for the scraps from cleaning the fish.

Wreck Museum displayed the treasures found from the shipwreck. Marilyn Monroe’s famous Seven Year Itch status was in front of a theater.

One of the highlights for my husband was his diving trip.

Handel’s Messiah

Daily Post: Song

Music speaks to my soul more deeply than written words, or speaking voices. Inspirational songs and hymns are my favorite. I started singing and taking voice lessons when I was a late teenager. Solo singing was my regular engagement. Several major classical music performances I participated in are:

Felix Mendelssohn’s “ELIJAH,” Johannes Brahms “A GERMAN REQUIEM,” and G. F. Handel’s “MESSIAH.”

This year’s Christmas concert of Handel’s MESSIAH rehearsal has already begun last Sunday, October 30, 2016.

The last song in MESSIAH is “Worthy is the Lamb.” The lyrics and the music touch my heart and humble my spirit:

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, and

Hath redeemed us to God by His blood, to

Receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and

Strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

Blessing and honour, glory and power be

Unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and

Unto the Lamb, forever and ever. Amen.
