Lens Artists Photo Challenge #15: Changing and/or Changeable

We took our second trip to Anchorage, Alaska in May 2018. Our first visit was several years ago one week after the summer season. We missed going to Denali by one week because the train was close. Every year the train stops going to Denali to let the snow pile up during winter. This time I did my booking to ensure a tour to Denali.

On the day of the tour, we boarded the coach in the morning. The weather was not very promising. The tour guide said it couldn’t guarantee to have a clear sky to view Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain of the northernmost of the United States which is 20,320 feet. Read more

SoCS August 5, 2017 – High/Low

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “high/low.” Use one, use both, bonus points for starting and finishing with one or both. Have fun! – Linda G Hill

Smoke high in the sky – British Columbia, Canada remains under a state of emergency as 123 wildfires continue to burn across the province. This season is now B.C.’s worst fire season in almost six decades and officials say it will only get worse.

Due to the British Columbia Wildfire, the smoke has been drifting to Seattle, Washington to Portland, Oregon. I have been checking the weather in Portland the last five days. The temperature was as high as 100o on Wednesday, August 2nd, and 101o on Thursday, August 3rd. It will be gradually getting lower and lower. The first half of August remains in the upper 90s. The second half of August will be in the upper 80s to upper 70s toward the end of the month.

Mercy’s baby is due on September 19th. I am glad to hear that she stays cool at home and in her office as the temperature in both places is lower.

Cee’s Share Your World – July 10, 2017

“Share Your World (SYW) is all about having a safe place for everyone to answer random questions that I post each week.” – Cee

The following are Cee’s questions and my answers.

  1. How do you like to spend a rainy day?

Living in southern California, it seldom has downpour rain. A rainy day would just be another regular day. I do business as usual and go places as scheduled. We have a leak on the patio cover, so we have to get out some buckets to catch the dripping water. We don’t have gutter for the roof in the front part of the house. There are some potted plants in the front yard, I would move the potted plants to catch the rainwater from the roof and give them a soaking treat.

  1. List at least five favorite treats(They do not have to be sugary).

My favorite treats are not sugary for sure. Being a health nut with a small stomach, every bite counts. I try not to take in empty calories. Here comes my list of favorite treats: 1) 85% cocoa dark chocolate, 2) walnuts, 3) mixed nuts without peanuts, 4) bite size quiche, and 5) cheese and crackers.

  1. Where’s your favorite place to take out-of-town guests?

As far as distance from our home, we could drive 10 minutes to Disneyland, 45 minutes to Universal Studio in Hollywood, 35 minutes to Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, and Huntington Beach. Amusement Parks are more expensive and usually, the lines are long to get on the rides. Unless my out-of-town guests request to go to the amusement parks, otherwise, my favorite place to take them would be Newport Beach. There is a Fun Zone at Newport Beach where there are activities such as Whale Watch, Harbor Cruise, swimming, and surfing, or visiting art museums.

  1. You are trapped in an elevator, who would you want to be trapped with?

If I were trapped in an elevator, I would want to be trapped with my daughter. My daughter and I have so much to talk about, but we don’t seem to have enough time to talk. If we were trapped, the building security should know and work on solving the problem. We might as well relax to talk until the technician came to our rescue.

Tuesday Photo Challenge – Weather

Frank at Dutch Goes the Photo this week goes with the theme Weather.

weather 1

There were sunny but not too hot for several weeks. We went to Laguna Beach, Southern California, two weeks ago. Families enjoyed sitting under their beach umbrellas. Ladies were sunbathing in their natty bathing suits. Kids were running in and out of the water.

weather 2

There were two basketball courts by the beach for people to jump in and shoot hoops. I had my hat on to shade my face and my eyes. We stopped by different arts displays, such as oil painting, watercolor painting, color pencil drawing, sculptures, and more. It’s always inspiring to me to look at all the arts, and I thought, “I could do that!”

We got up this morning, the sun didn’t show up. It was drizzling. When I went to the yard to check the plants and fruit trees, I could feel the moist on my face.  Looking up into the sky, the clouds were dark and heavy. I wonder if it is going to rain tonight!
